I had F430 F1 and gated at the same time and preferred the F1. I had more fun in the F1. The 458 is an easy choice for me over any F430. The increased reflexes and sensitivity of the 458's controls made the F430 seem even older than it is. The 458 feels much sharper and truly like next-gen hardware. 9000RPM on the newer car is a big deal for me. I was happy to get the reliable and refined DCT and leave the single clutch behind. The interior is a nice step up. I prefer the looks of the 458; last Pininfarina mid-engine V8 design, and the best one IMO.
I loved my F430 and was kinda down on my new 458... Then I put it on the track at Daytona. I can say on the track its worlds ahead of the F430. The 458 eats the track, the F430 would have been fun, but I could not have pushed it like the 458. I'm sure a true track guy could have. The 458 also just sucked it up. I'm sure the F430 would have needed some love after the event. The F430 is still wild for a little trip down the blvd or a quick blast on the interstate.
Unfortunately, you have to take Clarkson’s praise (and criticism) worth a grain of salt. He said the following in a subsequent interview, when comparing 488 to 458, “The 488 is a fabulous car — make no mistake about that. And anyone who owns a 458 (The 488's predecessor) now would feel small and stupid because they bought the wrong car... James May.” https://www.businessinsider.com/jeremy-clarkson-interview-grand-tour-amazon-tesla-ferrari-2016-11
This was my solution. A 458 and a 991.2 GT3 manual. It’s a solid set up and covers a lot of bases for me. I don’t think either are going anywhere anytime soon.
Don’t do it. I got bored with my 458. Owned it for 2 years and it bore me to death after the first year. Keep the gated 430. You will seriously regret selling it. Only reason to get the 458 over a 430 is if you will daily drive it as your only car (which was my case). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sold my F430 for 458. Missed it at first but now hardly ever think about it and would never go back. 458 is on another level. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
430 and 458 are two different worlds. You really can't compare them. The best option is to own both if you can, and if you want your back cracked on one day, take the 430. If you want a smooth buttery experience, take the 458. This is why I kept my single clutch Gallardo. It's a mini Aventador and I love it. Dual clutch cars will never have that rawness with the shifting but if you have both, you can pick what day you want to experience each feeling.
Sell the BMW and 430. Buy a 458 and an f12. Best of both worlds. That said, I sold my 458 2 years ago, regretted it the entire time, prices skyrocketed, and now I just bought that ‘07 silver/tan 430 from Palm Beach with 3,000 miles on it, and paid about the same as i paid for my 458 originally (damn it). Fully aware it will be a much slower car than 458 but super excited for something a little more classic. If it doesn’t take will buy another 458 down the road. Just excited to be back in the Ferrari state of mind ! What a time to be alive.
