I'm ready for new tires. I'm considering the Toyo RA1s but are they suitable for the street? So far I don't see why not. Comments? TIA

Those are the absolute best tires made on the planet. ;)

Very serious tire. You need a warm climate to have a chance to get them up to the right temperature. They need about 7-10minutes to warm up, then they stick like glue.

I was able to hook 750bhp (680rwhp) to the street with them on my last car. They only make them for 18" wheels I believe. You need to drive very slow in the rain.

If you order them make sure NOT to get the shaved version if running on the street. Vilven Tire is a great source (avail and price) as they supply the World Challenge cars with the Toyo RA's.

I have them on my P-car (520 hP TT)

    Warms up fast....

Feels good in damp but i wont push them in full wet though.

I've been told I can get 5K miles out of them but lets see....

And I believe you an only get them up to 18" (no 19's).

The RA1 is marketed as a track "wet".

I noticed the RA-1 was listed for wet track use also, but didn't understand.

All of my driving has been on the street to date.
Comparing 335/30-18 PZero Yellows to 335/30-18 Toyo RA-1's at 680rwhp, all I can note is that the Toyo's were awesome when warmed up in the dry, absolutely amazing. The PZero Yellow street tires were better in the wet, but not near as sticky in the dry.

How does street driving in the wet differ from track driving in the wet? Do the roads drain differently? The Toyo's seemed scary to me at high power in the wet and liked to hydroplane.

What is the experience like driving on a wet track? There must be a reason full tread Toyo's are rec'd on the track in the wet (vs. Shaved Toyos for dry track).

When they have some heat in them, they are relatively sticky in the wet.

Man, are you in luck. I'm just getting serious about selling mine for about half price, virtually a brand new set I ran on my 360 for a few months before selling it (I remounted the OE tires for the sale). They were absolutely fine on the street, I saw no difference at all to my OE Bridgestones, I was a bit concerned about their cold performance but it was a non-issue. I know of at least one 360 driver in the area who uses them all year long.

They are really great tires, they are used in a lot of SCCA classes as they wear very well, heat cycle very well, and pretty good performance for DOT track tires. They are not quite as fast as Hoosier, but last much longer about 3x on a 2200 lb car and won't throw rubber bits at cars behind you when they are up to temp. We shave them down to 3/32 and 15 minute or so of track time gets them ready to race. To save money, shave them to 5/32 and they last an additional track day or two. Leave them full tread for rain. I am not sure how good they are in wider sizes, but in 205 and 225 width they are very good rain tires for track...can't say how they are on the street in rain.
