Hi all. Alas, I was only 9 when he booked off. Anyone lucky enough to see him on stage in Nevada or similar ?
Hey! He was in a grocery store in So Cal last week. I saw him, I'm not ****tin' you! Erich Elvis has left the building.
Too young too see him live but I went to an unusual concert featuring him about 3 years ago in London They had a huge video screen of him at the back of the stage, featuring extracts of him singing at various of his concerts, the Aloha from Hawaii concert featuring heavily. Some of the original Jordonnaires were providing the music. The whole thing worked really well, though not as good as the real thing of course
Saw him at the Cow Palace (how appropriate.....) just before he died.....bloated, sweaty, problems finishing his songs.....sad.
Jeff, I love Elvis, but I was only 5 when he died. I do have 3 great DVD's all digitally remastered. "Alhoha from Hawaii", "68 Comeback" and "Elvis the way it is" All were recently released and feature tons of never before seen footage. BTW Elvis owned a Black 308 GT4 with factory knock off rims. It's still at Graceland. I believe he shot it once because it didn't start. I emailed the web site for info on the chasis number but they said it wasn't available. All they had to do was look at the steering hub! Anyone know the chasis number?
Jeff, after seeing your posting, I called one of my co-workers who is an expert on Elvis. He's not a fanatic, but he collects memorabilia on Elvis and Hollywood types. He saw Elvis in concert in Pine Bluff, Arkansas (about 100 miles or so southwest of Memphis). It was one of his last few concerts. It was September 1976. He said that the King's voice and delivery were excellent, but that he did look overweight. The Pine Bluff Convention Center which hosted the concert had fallen upon hard times back then. Not much business. So they booked Elvis for one concert. The tickets sold out within one hour. So Colonel Tom Parker decided to add a second concert the next night. Colonel Tom had booked the entire Holiday Inn hotel as their stayover point for the night. But the fans were gathered outside and kept screaming for Elvis until late that night. Elvis couldn't sleep, so he had Colonel Tom drive him to the Pine Bluff airport and flew him back to Memphis where he spent the night at Graceland. He flew back to Pine Bluff for a second concert the next night. The King's last concert was at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana in June 1977. My friend is a true Elvis-o-phile because he told me all this info off the top of his head. He is full of Elvis facts and trivia. Another bit of trivia. I watched the King's "Aloha from Hawaii" special when it aired in 1973. The special starts out with a picture of a TV relay satellite and the audio of random morse code. The morse code is real. It actually says "Aloha from Hawaii".
my mother saw him twice. I've been to Graceland 4 times..I love that place! I always joke that I want to build a replica in the posh area of Dallas with jungle room and all.
Hi guys. Thanks for that. I'm into him right now. The live stuff (CDs) is by far the best.....and Jay, I have the "Elvis, that's the way it is" DVD...a brilliant piece...and the CD of the '68 Comeback. I hear that the Aloha is the one to go out and buy. Had a birthday last Saturday so may find my way into HMV again...! Just wondered what it would be like to have seen him live, first hand as it were. Thanks for the insight, Horsefly. Apparently I can change my name to Elvis on the internet for £38, that's about $70 !! Best
Jeff, the "Aloha from Hawaii" is fantastic and is a must. The quality of his voice is just amazing. "My Way", "You gave me a mountain" and "What now my love" are my favourites. I get shivers listening. There was a program on the Discovery Channel today "Biker buildoff" and they stopped at Graceland. They showed pictures from inside and sure enough, Elvis' black GT4 was prominantly displayed.
J, the black/black 1975 308 GT/4 is chassis number 10074. Elvis purchased the car used from Hollywood Sportscars on October 7, 1976 for $20,583. This, however, is not the car that he shot. That was his 1971 yellow/black DeTomaso Pantera chassis number 501954.
Thanks Wayne! I knew where he bought it but I've been trying to find out the chasis number for years! His is very early, mine is 10636 and is quite a bit different from later US versions. I wonder how similar his was to mine. As mentioned his has the factory knock off Borranis. 10074 would make it a '74?
I've see the movie "Elvis On Live!" in 70's. It was his Vegas concert. Maybe this movie is available in video or DVD.
Elvis and John Belushi were just at the Crystal MN VFW the other night http://startribune.com/stories/462/5029970.html
Aloha from Hawaii is the concert for the Kuikalani Lee Cancer foundation. Kuikalani Lee was a Hawaiian song writer who penned the words to the song "I'll Remember you". He died of Cancer and this was a benefit concert in his name. It was seen in 40 countries by about 1.5 Billion (with a B) people, an astonishing feet for 1972! It is a must have for any Elvis fan.
Hi So I took your advice and bought the Deluxe DVD version of 'Aloha from Hawaii'. In total there are 4 hours of stuff to watch including previously unseen footage. So far I've watched the original concert and while is good Elvis looks visibly older and less energetic than say, 'Elvis - That's The Way It Was'. Still brilliant to watch. I wonder where the belts and capes are now that got tossed into the audience.
