I'm going to see them tomorrow at a local winery. Just seeing who may have seen the group live in the last couple of years. Should I expect a good show? SD was one of my favorites in high school and on to Donald ***en's solo work, which I thought was creative.

One of my favorite bands. I have the "Best of SD" in my CD changer at all times! Please give us a review after the show.

Can't help on Steely, but if the Hippiefest Tour comes near you I would go. I went a couple of weeks ago in Dallas, expecting a grade C event and got a solid A out of it.

Started with Jonathan Edwards -(didn't know him by name, but once he played his hit "Sunshine" we all knew him) , Melanie was darn good and played with her son and daughter who were both talents in their own rights. Then the lead singer for Badfinger ( the group promoted on Apple by the Beatles, and McCartney wrote their first hit) did their hits. Flo and Eddie played 4-5 Turtles hits, and on to Jack Bruce, who, though in his 60's, sang and played like a youngster, and layed out a bunch of Cream hits. The last group was Eric Burdon and the Animals. There was a stage band of drums, guitar, bass and keyboard, and the stars played with this talented backup band.

It was 3 hours of back to back 60's and the crowd (many in their 60's) loved it. No wacky tobacco smell in the air, as it was an indoor facility, but the crowd was in to it anyway.

I saw them a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised and the great sound quality and vocals of D.F. Since they seem to really shine as a great studio band I expected less than stellar musiciansmanship(ha!), but they were really, really good! You should enjoy the concert but expect to be disappointed in the fill level of your beer cup at the concession stand, but that is for another thread...

My gut feeling says I'll enjoy the music. It sucks being disapointed at a concert you looked forward to. That happened to me when I saw Sting for the first time about 12 years ago. It was at an open amphitheater where the acoustics were horrible. I listened to two songs and left (in hopes of seeing him again, possibly indoors). Another thing I hate at concerts (Don Henley comes to mind) is when some singer stops in the middle of the performance to talk for an hour about saving trees, whales, etc. I'll walk. I pay for music, not to hear some enviro-whacko tell me that I am using too much paper and should be driving a hybrid!

The only comments I remember ***en saying were some things about using drugs in the past.

Can I go w/ you? "Dirty Work" is one of my all time favorites! I've seen lots of huge name 70s concerts front row right at the stage pasing doobies w/ the roadies but would still love to see Steely Dan.

Great show, great outdoor location (Ironstone Winery, N. CA), 75o at 10P with pretty good elevated lawn seating. Tons of hits I have forgot about and it was cool to hear them! This is one extremely tight band! DF plus 8 and three backup female singers (Are big afro's in fasion?) that were excellent. Did one encore, but they never did Do it Again, Reelin in the Years and Rikki which I was taken back a bit, but they put it out for two hours and ten minutes straight! The only thing that was a bit annoying was the delay from the speakers about 150 years from the stage. It was only about a half a second, but very noticable when your hearing is focused on the main speakers on the stage. DF's sqweeky, fixed-pitch voice was as good live as it is on a studio CD. I'd see them again in a heartbeat....Bela Fleck is next!
