...with Christian Bale? Saw it last night and geez what a weird frickin' movie and good lord he looked straved to death. Here's a pic- Image Unavailable, Please Login
I read that he had an audition for the Batman movie shortly after that. Once he finished filming The Machinist, he weighed 120lbs. His trainers wanted him up to 180 lbs for the Batman movie and they told him to start eating slowly til back to normal. Instead, he pigged out and ate a bunch of crap like chocolate and gained 60lbs in a couple months, lol. Three months after that, with a personal trainer, he remained at 180lbs, but built with muscles instead like he was for Batman Begins. That has to take a toll on your body going through a cycle like that. Good movie, though.
I think it is a great movie. I watched it about a year ago, just before Batman came out. It is really an amazing transformation. I think Bale is one of the most talented actors our there right now; certainly the most dedicated. Who else would lose 1/3 of their bodyweight for a foreign independant production? For comparison, here he is a few months later at premiere of the movie: - Chris
MAN! When I was watching the movie, I first thought, no....thats gotta' be a body double or CGI, certainly unhealthy to say the least..... Here's some more pics- Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It certainly is a wierd movie, until you see the end do you realize the clues were right in front of your face during the movie. Jennifer Jason Leigh has such a small part in that movie. If only there was more of her.
Anyone see American Psycho? He went from very lean but muscular in that (2000), to the waif in The Machinist, and back to muscular again. I saw an interview with him about it and he said he didn't feel bad looking like he did in The Machinist, just obviously not alot of stamina.
watching american psycho again now... gets better every time, rather than being in primary school i wish i was a shallow corporate upper-middle-weight in the 80's. this and the movie Wall Street. it's odd, i didn't like the movie when i first saw it, as i'd read most of the brett easton ellis (or whatever) book back in the 90's (didn't finish for some reason ) and so when i saw the movie it seemed hopelessly underwhelming in comparison, but now without the prejudice of a book movie, i like it more...
I've read every B.E. Ellis book cover to cover and find the description of the rat eating the woman's bottom half in American Psycho to be one of the best graphic scenes in a book, ever.
It really is amazing how he went from being buff and cut up in American Psycho to looking like he's going to die of starvation soon in the Machinist. I heard that it really did take a toll on his body and he had to be hospitalized for a few days, but don't know if that's 100% true. By the way American Psycho is a great movie, one of my favorites.
The movie was fantastic. I'm a huge Christian Bale fan. Many people forget is role in Shaft, where he played the racist rich kid. Here are some facts about The Machinist. http://imdb.com/title/tt0361862/trivia Here is the relation to Batman: "Due to his part in Maquinista, El (2004), Christian Bale was vastly underweight (about 120 pounds on his 6 foot+ frame) when he was under consideration for the part. After being cast, he was told to become as "big as you could be" by 'Christopher Nolan' . Bale underwent a dietary and exercise regiment and ending up weighing about 220 pounds (about 40 pounds above his normal weight). It was decided that Bale had became too large (friends of his on the film's crew dubbed him "Fatman") and he quickly shed about 20 pounds to have leaner, more muscular frame." I hate that they are taking their sweet time with Batman Begins. But if it means it'll be as good or better than the first, I'll gladly wait.
How has no one mentioned Equilibrium yet? Great movie as well. Equilibrium The Machinist American Psycho Batman Begins All classics.
Though much younger, Bale did an incredible job in 'Empire Of The Sun'. I think it is one of Spielberg's best films as well. - Chris
Here is the trailer for one of Bale's many new movies, also stars Eva Langoria: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5tWmynqgGk&search=harsh%20times - Chris
