I saw it in downtown Tualatin a few days ago it looks good from a distance as long as your def. Since anyone can tell the rumble of the 4G63 that hums from behind. Just wondering if anyone else has spotted this car also.

The car is a HORRIBLE re-creation of a Murcielago...the paint job was done well...but what a waste of money. I think the car is on a Mitsubishi Eclipse chasis....the headlights are siliconed in place and the rear mesh is held in place with wood screws...the panel between the tail lights doesn't form to the body of the car...and it's got the coffee can exhaust system on it...it's horrible!!! Saw it at a car show not long ago....pity.

My issue is that it was TOO close in color to my Murci!

For the uneducated, and if it drives by you fast enough, my car looked exactly the same. At least Kaoss had a different color! But at the same car show, there were people walking from Kevins, back to the replica.

Up close the thing is not EVEN in the ball park. Wood screws etc. But going down the road at 50 mph, it is hard for the uneducated not to know.

But hey, more power to the guy. He got you guys chattin!

I couldn't bring myself to take a photo of it...the owner of it took a dozen photos of his car next to mine before we went into the car show...I agree with Adam, going down the road, very few people would know the difference...up close, OBVIOUS it is a replica...the guage cluster inside, no locks on the doors...CHICKEN wire for the grills in the back (no lie)...gas cap on wrong side...but again, at 50 mph....the uneducated wold be none the wiser.

I saw it up close a month or so ago, and thought the wood screws were a very close 'factory' look.

    Yes.... I AM kidding.

The sad thing is that tons of people were at the import show in february, gathered around it. Many moms with baby strollers and such, who probably assumed it was real. While I appreciate ANYONE's effort and enthusiasm as it pertains to cars, I just cringed.

Man... I forgot about the chicken wire! Yowza.

    I couldn't take a pic either. I wish I did, now.

Took one of yours with my crappy Motorola RAZR phone though! Perfect car in every way.

Not sure, but I've seen this car twice (I live in Tualatin). The sad thing is I've reported it twice in the spotter thead! Sure hope it's not the same one as that would really call me out of how unedjamukated I am of Lambos.

Both times either I or he was in motion; "looked" ok from a distance and while moving though.

YUP! Even with OEM taillamps and headlamps. It is CLOSER as a replica (in my opinion) than most of the Countach nightmares from years ago. And honestly TOO close in my opinion at a 20 / 20 distance . (20 mph, 20 ft away!)

Actually, when you get up close, you can tell that the headlamps are NOT OEM...the tail lights are, but the headlights, close from 20 ft...but then the plexiglass covers start to show the running silicone along the edges hiding the wood screws keeping them in place.

I wish I had a better photo of the rear of the car...the mirrors are wrong too...too small and they actually sit at an angle. It's a train wreck of a car...and the thing I noticed most about the car was that it's kind of "bowing" in the middle...the back of the car is COMPLETELY wrong...but more power to the guy if he paid the money for it and drives it...I can't see how the performace would be impressive though.

A few gallons of expensive pearl paint don't produce a Lambo...that's for sure. He's even got the Lamborghini engine cover on the car so when you look through the louvers, it LOOKS like the top of a Lambo motor.

His buddy kept saying, "He didn't want to spend the money for the real thing because he wanted some other toys"...the guy seemed nice enough, but still...the craftmanship of this thing is so poor...chicken wire people...chicken wire for meshing in the back of the car with WOOD SCREWS holding it in place!

    Oh the insanity.

    Over here!

    Take a guess...
With a 4g63 it's presumably either an Evo -like Larry's- underneath, or a run of the mill (and heavy) Eclipse as was previously posited.

I don't want to stir the pot and create a polarizing debate in this thread, but I for one think it's great when someone builds a reasonable quality 'tribute' car. Consider the time/labor, creative solutions, and sourcing of parts involved in building something like this, whereas the real thing requires merely (hah!) adequate funds and a wave of the pen. I don't think there's any question that anyone in their right mind would rather have the real thing, but I suspect this one cost a bit less than Adam's or Kevin's, and as noted, it apparently fooled even some regulars here. The general public almost certainly thinks it's the real thing- dubiously attached chicken wire and all. ;)

That said- if the owner is representing it as the genuine article, that's simply inexcusable, but if he's honest about what it is, what's the harm?

Imitation is, after all, the sincerest form of flattery, no?

I agree. As long as the workmanship was top notch and the drivetrain and handling were high performance, I'm betting most car enthusiasts would be all smiles owning a replica of a Shelby Daytona, Ford GT40, or Ferrari P4. Of course, replicas of that caliber are going to cost over $100k.

On the other hand, I think most enthusiasts would agree that a 360 replica built on an MR2 just doesn't cut it because the performance is not there and 360s are not rare enough. Owning a replica like that becomes posing. A replica becomes more acceptable the more unobtainable the real thing becomes, and the higher the quality of the replica.

For me personally, this Murci replica doesn't make the cut. Upon close examination, like many replicas the lines on the body panels appear too soft in critical areas, giving it the over all look of one of those snap-together models with molded plastic parts. And then there's the small issue of the engine that lacks the V-12 sound. Like previous posters have said, though, visually it will fool a lot of people (would probably have fooled me if I hadn't gotten the heads up from this thread) and, if that makes the owner happy and he doesn't misrepresent it, then I'm happy for him. People buy cars for all kinds of reasons!

The pictures of it in this thread represent the car very, very well. Most of the panels are from true molds of a murci, so they are dimensionally correct. Couple that with the factory paint, I think. The interior is completely different.

In person, with any level of study it shows all of the glaring differences in workmanship/ craftsmanship of other high quality kit cars (Superformance Cobras, et al.). When compared to the genuine article it's VERY noticable. Then the engine starts and it's an entirely different sound.

I admire ANYONE's enthusiasm for exotics (inclusive of those that spend $80-90K plus countless hours assembling... replicas) but for me personally... I'd just as soon keep saving until I can afford the real deal. If a Murci was more than a million dollars and were no longer produced, perhaps I would feel differently.

And no, I don't have a Murcielago, so that's not the perspective (as an owner of the real thing) I'm coming from.

    Of interest:

I don't know if these examples are what Ferrari or Lamborghini would call flattering...check out the Gallardo wheels on the murcie roadster...btw, the car we're discussing, is listed on that site for 95k...another 50-60k and he could've gotten the real thing that was sellable...now, as sad as it may appear, he'll be stuck with this car for a very long time...
