Well I would run from that car. I take great care of my cars, and everything works, and if something does not I fix it, and fast. If I was going to buy from a private seller, I'd only buy from someone who cars for their cars the way I do, and that is not the person that owns that car.

If it was vandalized, insurance would cover the repairs. I'm thinking there is more to the story.

And it got me worried when people leaned on it to take a look at the engine, worst when they rested their torso weight on the rear spoiler to get a closer look.

How strange is that. Makes you wonder if he wants to actually sell the car or not.

I can see this going both ways.

On one hand it could be a car that's 99% "there" as far as condition and once the parts are gathered, could need a weekends worth of TLC by a competent, meticulous DIYer to bring it up to snuff. You can sell off those wheels and put some Callistos on to freshen up the look, or get the standard '04 wheels and go completely back to stock.

On the other hand, the A/C and stereo problems could be the result of an electrical short, possibly a damaged wiring harness. It could've had paintwork done to it. The carfax/vehicle history could have some dark tales to tell.

There's no way in hell I'd just show up with 75 grand and take the car off his hands. But, since I'm a DIYer, I'd give it some consideration. First would be a thorough vehicle background check online and get on the phone with the owner and find out who the previous owner / owners were and what dealer has serviced the car. If all that checks out, step 2 is to go take a look armed with a paint meter and give it the once-over. Finally, I'd have the local dealer or well-qualified independent shop check the clutch and possibly compression/leakdown. Depending on the feedback, I'd put together an offer and see if he bites.

The most concerning thing is why the current owner hasn't fixed what's wrong with it and put it out there in presentable condition.
