Guys, hoping someone has seen this before...

Took the car out yesterday for first drive of the year.... yeah! (car has been garaged since October last)

All was good for about an hour, then.......my first ever CEL appeared.

The car gave a noticeable engine stutter, then went back to normal and the CEL disappeared.. it didn't stall or stop.

Then about 50 yards down the road while stopped at traffic lights... it stopped/cut out, and wouldn't restart.

At this stage when I tried to restart the car gave the following.

    Ignition wouldn't start

CEL light on and the F1 gearbox light flashing in sync with a very loud audible beep.

I parked the car and about an hour later I tried a restart.

The car fired up CEL stayed on, but car sounded like it was running on one bank.

    Switched the car off.

Tried to start again.... and the CEL / beep in sync with F1 gearbox started again.

At this stage I had the car lifted and taken to my mechanic.

A point of note, even with this audible beep/F1 gearbox light flashing I could get the car into gear and reverse no problem with car ignition in POS 2. So not a gearbox selection problem.

If anyone has seen this before I would appreciate your insight so I can direct my mechanic accordingly.

He has full Leonardo system so I am sure he will track the issue down fairly fast..

    Thanks in advance.

    Tom

I had exactly the same issue, stuck dead on motorway. It was F1 sensor broken.

I don't think this is the solution but since you're mucking around with the F1, you might as well follow through. Check your brake lights. The F1 diagnostic system is tied to the brake pedal switch and the proper operation of the brake lights.

Fresh gas on the day, there was about 2 bars of 6 month old gas before refill, but no issue when driving to gas station.

Yes it does, very much so......

It is interesting........guess what the F car premium is if it is the F1 sensor...

    F1 sensor Maserati €122 +VAT +Fitting

    F1 sensor Ferrari €430 +VAT +Fitting

From images I see on line it looks the same for both cars...but the connector is different.

Anyone know who could validate.... I would quite happily take out my connector kit to save €300 (in theory for a connector, unless anyone else validates differently)

Had very similar symptoms after a winter lay-up, it was a faulty ECU. If it runs on the left bank, it's the right ECU and vice versa. Please let us know the result of the investigation.

There should be loads of brand new blank ECUs floating around in the UK after people have imported those racing exhausts. Give me a shout if you can't find any.

Will do, think my mechanic knows a source in the UK.

The issue is the blank ones.... unless you know someone who has managed to crack the encryption to download old software and flash back to new untis, if yes PM me please.

    Cheers

I don't believe there to be any encryption - they can be bench flashed. Try contacting 360Trev or Eric355 on here.

Already in contact with Prosport... they have confirmed, encryption on RHS units - once plugged in and key turned the ECU is encrypted with alarm system in some way.

RHS ECUs can only ever be used to replace LHS unit as a second hand part.

LHS ECU is a slave to RHS ECU.... encryption is a non issue apparently....

So if RHS ECU goes ... you can take your LHS ECU and put in RHS slot.... take second hand RHS unit and put in LHS ECU slot..... and car will work.

If LHS ECU goes ... you can take second hand RHS ECU or second hand LHS ECU (which has never been put in a RHS slot) and replace LHS ECU ..... and car will work.

However, in both of the above scenarios ...... if RHS ECU goes down again and the LHS ECU is a second hand - but originally RHS ECU ....... then you need 2 new ECU's from Ferrari with no coding/ encryption....... for which you pay £3600....as they will only sell you both.

OK - I know about the tying in of the ECU to the security system. I thought you were saying there was encryption to stop the maps being flashed on.

It sounds like you are well on your way to getting it fixed - hope you are back on the road soon.
