Spent some time over the weekend reading the stats on the Temerario. It looks like it should really put the screws to the 296 and the 750S, especially in a straight line....

Wondering if Ferrari will have an answer / mid cycle update....

How do you come to that conclusion? It’s quicker to 60 bc of AWD but the 0-124 is the same as both. Meaning it’s slower from a roll.

Well there aren't any instrumented tests of Lambo....but usually instrumented tests outperform the factory claims...

who cares? it really doesn't matter in the scheme of things. All of these cars have more performance than most can handle.

No doubt the real world application is "who cares", but I think Ferrari very much cares. Hence the unexpected drop of the F8 after the 720 showed up...

I would also add that I would be much less likely to care if I had my GTS right now, but since they keep me waiting...and waiting...and waiting....

they do? I think there’s certainly a mixed bag when it comes to comparing instrumented tests to factory claims.

I don't understand why people get so worked up over the straight line times of cars that weren't specifically designed for straight lines like the Demon. Track times are what truly matter.

Who said I was worked up? LOL...straight line times are one way to measure things in a relatively controlled environment. Straight line times have a lot of variables, but track times have even more.

It's just a question people...everybody wants to be the king. We all watch the drag races on you tube..

Not saying you were. A lot of people do though. Just take your ferrari to a small town boomer car show or post it on a local car page on Facebook and you will have 74 people saying how their purpose built drag car can beat it. Plus there are youtube channels with tons of views specifically for drag racing super cars.

It's like judging a fine bottle of wine or whiskey on how ****ed up it gets you. Sure it will do that quite well, but that's not It's intended use.

Even track times don't matter. How about fun to drive, feel, emotion, sound, essentially the total package.

If you're only concerned with straight-line speed, I'm not sure if you've seen this video:

FWIW's, according to the video, the 296 and Reveluto are pretty evenly matched. Since the Temerario is slotted below the Reveluto, I assume that Lambo will not make it faster than the Reveluto. So, I would assume the 296 will be faster than the Temerario in a straight line, except at launch where AWD will always launch better than RWD.

Plus, the whole point to the 296 is having all that power just at the rear wheels, not all four.

There's more to a car than winning drag races, we all know this. That doesn't address the original post though.

If you watch the carwow drag race of the 296 vs. Revuelto, the 296 is just as fast. It makes sense that the Temerario will be slower than the Revuelto and therefore slower than the 296 even with a claimed 100 more HP.

Now that non-XX SF90s are (almost) out of production Ferrari will release the 296VS. And the Temerario will remain in production for 10 long years just like the Gallardo and Huracan.

But to the whole premise of this OP, according to the stats presented by OEMs the Tem is not quicker than the 296 (they’re essentially even) and the Tem is 2+ years newer so the 296 is certainly not outgunned. By the time the Tem releases a mid cycle update there will be a new 296.

and they’re all out gunned by a lowly Corvette next year anyway….

Motortrend stated the Ferrari 296 GTB is the fastest production RWD car you can currently purchase atm.

296 GTB - 2.3 seconds 0-60? and 9.6 Quarter? It rips the track numbers on fastestlaps.com too.

Perhaps the new Lambo will beat it on a nasty surface because of the obvious, but the new Lambo is considerably heavier.

Temerario will be tipping the scales at over 4000lbs curb, probably even with the "lightweight" package.

Decent torque over the 296 but less than 100HP for 400-500lbs curb weight?

Also the 296GTB power delivery is exceptional with the Hybrid system filling in the gaps just like the Temerario.

296 GTB handling will be noticeably better than the Temerario especially the Assetto Fiorano package w/ Carbon Fiber wheels to match the Lambo.

The slip system in the 296 even for a RWD is insanely good.

The new ZR1 will be a bigger threat if Chevy can manage the lag / traction issues from a stop.

On a roll or on the track the new ZR1 is going to be an absolute animal.

Less weight than the Lambo and more power everywhere with most likely better aero and equal or better brakes.

Back to the Temerario - Do we think it will compete with the SF90 in terms of straight line or even handling? Absolutely not.

In that case why worry about it being measurable better than the 296 GTB in any category?

We know what the 296 GTB can do against the SF90 and the Reveulto?

I was pumped to put a deposit down on one and park it next to my 296 but after seeing the launch the answer is why?

I would rather wait for my deposit on the 720/750s replacement or buy a low mile Ferrari Certified SF90.

    296 vs Lambo?

    Weight - Ferrari
    Track - Ferrari
Straight line - Most likely negligible on a decent surface
    Overall Handling - Ferrari
    Looks - Ferrari
Interior - Maybe Lambo if you want the extra screen and non-Haptic controls?
Sound - Ferrari (Lambo sounds like my 720s)
    Cost - Ferrari
RWD Bragging Rights for now - Ferrari

The two greatest mid level "Supercars" in the last decade are the 720s and the 296 GTB.

Ferrari went all in on the 296GTB and it will take more than a bloated baby Lambo to dislodge it, especially so soon after the 296's release.

Reminds of the what BMW did to the new M5.

The Temerario will be faster than the Revuelto IMO they couldn't officially release it with a faster acceleration time and upset the hierarchy LOL, it will be very interesting to see it against the 296, IMO it will be faster than the 296 and very close if not as fast as the SF90 but it's all fun speculation at the moment.

I have a Temerario on order but it will not be here for another 18 months I would say, the Revuelto finished production awaiting shipping, the 296 shouldn't be too far behind it, I am very curious how these cars compare, at the stage I am loving the SF90 it would be interesting to see if the Revuelto will change that.

I'm afraid I'll only have to read this kind of stupidity in the time to come... The passion for cars is disappearing !
A car capable of winning a drag race makes a king? but the king of what... without being vulgar.
This comment is generalist, don't take it personally

Don't be so dramatic, lots of us love track driving, mountain pass driving, spirited driving in general, participate in racing etc. the passion for sports cars is as strong as ever, yes some enjoy drag racing and I agree these are the wrong type of cars to do it in but that's their passion and I appreciate it and happy for them to do it, whatever makes one happy.

As a current Huracan owner (and 4 previous ones in different variants) and a 296 GTB owner I can tell you that I am so disappointed with this launch. The design language is bland and boring or downright ugly from some angles. The weight is portly at best and the hefty $357K USD base price makes this car extremely unattractive.

The question about being "outgunned" is really comical to me. Outgunned HP on paper doesn't really do anything for me. It doesn't outgun anything in Ferrari's current lineup on aesthetics. It doesn't outgun anything aesthetically from McLaren or Aston if we are using other marque brands.

IMO this vehicle will make Porsche the marque car offered from VAG in the sub 400K market and further push demand for their GT offerings.

If straight line performance is what you care about, it might be cheaper to build yourself a top fuel dragster that can do the 1/4 mile in 4 seconds. That's bone jarring performance no OEM can touch.

Interesting that day365 assumes I don't value the ability of a car to corner when looking at my profile pic. I am a racer.

The fact is straight line performance matters because it's so much easier to compare fairly. A track lap time is so dependent on so many factors, driver skill, temps., track surface conditions....it's much much more subjective.

What really matters is, how fun is the car to drive. I love driving my 720 and from the short period of time I spent in the 296, I loved it and I'm looking forward to having mine arrive.

All this being said, I've never loved a Lambo that I've driven. But if they make this thing closer to a P Car and less like an Audi, make no mistake, it will be a serious car....

Please note my original post only asked if people thought the 296 would be outgunned, especially in a straight line. Not whether straight line performance was the right way to judge a car!
