If so what roll over protection are you using??? I have a 355 and will do only a couple of track days per year so I don't want any hacking up of the interior just to install a roll bar.

    Any suggestions??

Hate to sound like this, but only two alternatives:

    1. Suck it up and install a roll bar. A friend has one in his 355 Spider and it doesn't look bad. The only drawback is that it is not as high as you might like in order to allow the top to go up and down. His is only behind the seats, doesn't have a bar going down to the floor in front, but it's adequate for track days. And it will leave marks if/when it's removed.

    2. Forget about tracking the Spider and get another car to use for the track with a hardtop.

One additional afterthought -- look for events that don't require a roll bar. They are few and far between, especially on the better tracks (which are the ones you really WANT to drive). But the reality is, without a roll bar, most events won't allow a Spider on the track.

While I dont recommend it and am inclined to agree with Ferrari Fanatic on the roll bar there are a good number of open track day programs out there that let you run without a roll bar in normal spider configuration.

Looks like I am SOL. Both local tracks; Button Willow and Thunderhill require a roll bar.

I know that the Spider is not a great track car as it flexes more and is heavier than the Berlinetta, but with a new set of PS2s and fresh brake fluid this car is ready to go.

i have a custom roll bar in my 348 spider that is fantastic. looks like twin roll hoops from 550 barchatta or 360/430 spider so is a great way to up date styling. top works perfectly and easily clears helmet if under 6 foot. cost about 5k 4 years ago.

definitely go for it as nothing compares to hi speed track driving with top down on a nice day!

ps anyone who can tell difference in handling of spider vs coupe is either a pro or a bs'er imho

95 Spiderman, do you have any pics? Also did he custom fab them for your car or were they for all 348s? Also can you show some pics of how they mount?

And yes, 100% agree: top down driving is awesome!

    I appreciate the info.

FYI, if you go to Photobucket.com you can up load the pics from your hard drive and then resize them with a click of a button using their tool. Then if you right click the bottom URL you can cut and paste it in your reply as the link is already formated.

I will do a search to see if I can find these guys.

    Cheers.

Great post about the roll bar installation spiderman! Any photos or sources would be very appreciated. By the way, the 355 spider is wonderful on the track and it does not flex or do anything untoward. You can definitely have a blast in them. Here is mine at Summit Point

Rich, I agree plenty of fun to be had in the Spider.

Spiderman, I called them today and they said it was nothing that they could ship and that they would have to do it custom (maybe he was thinking I wanted a full set-up?

Both of my local tracks require a roll bar so I am kind of $crewed.

I raced an open Ferrari at Sears Pt and Laguna Seca from '85-'90 with no rollbar. Thrilling! George

Hmm, looks like Infenion's new rules require a roll bar. I went to their website already but let me give them a call.

For vintage race events the rules are dictated by the race organizers and what their insurance allows. Currently most strongly encourage roll bars in all cars, however they are not required. Like I said "thrilling"! George
