Just curious. We see an aweful lot of cars selling at auction, for huge money. Are these atypical, or is that really the market?

Has anyone tried to trade in their testarossa at a ferrari dealer, to see what they would offer?

Are dealers actually "paying" $150,000 + for testarossa's?

I own a 2 owner 87, white/red, 16,000 miles, bought from Lake Forest Sports Cars. I was thinking of taking it up there to see what they would offer as a trade...

    Anyone done that?

I had an offer made to me by a dealer. No thanks but not insulted either.

My guess, they'll tell you "what's wrong with it" and offer you something between $70-80k

And then sell it to a buyer for 150K after telling the buyer "whats great about it" :)

Thats about what I figured... When I see testarossas selling at auction for $200k, it makes me wonder if the smart thing to do is to drive out and list it at auction...

I have no need or desire to sell. But, if I could get $200k... I could be convinced to part ways...

People are talking about a "bubble." To me it seems that most testarossas just doubled in value... yet the only ones we see talked about are the oddballs that sell for on-off amounts....

I think Joe traded in his TR to the McLaren dealer for a McLaren and it is listed by the dealer at $250,000. I think F dealers will lowball you to improve their margins.

Yeah the dealers will lowball you, just like anyone else.

Yes, the dealers will low-ball. They make more money on buying/selling used cars than selling new ones.

Also, the TRs selling for $200,000 are like-new examples with hardly any miles. With an auction, you are taking your chances. I just saw a TR with I think around 20k miles that sold on eBay by auction for around $100k.

You probably wont get $200K on ebay, but if you are just fishing around it's worth a couple of bucks to list it over there and see what happens.

This in England not America, and a consignment not a trade-in, but: my dealer says it would market my 87 Testarossa at 145k GBP (225k USD), expecting to achieve 135k-140k GBP. It's extremely good, original, never been fighting, major mechanical overhaul recently, but it's been driven, 21k miles.
It seems Testarossas are going for slightly more in the UK than the US, while with 512M it's the other way around.

I had a non Ferrari dealer offer me $105k at a car show 2 months ago. I told him It would make me sick to see it for sale a week later for $135. Dealers make their money buying low and selling at a profit. You might get a better deal if you were trading it in on another model as the other model has a profit built into the asking price. But a straight sale is not the best option for a seller.

The UK market seems higher for Ferraris in general. I know that scud prices have gone through the roof there.
