Motul has historically been very popular with the motorcycle racing crowd. I notice Elf product on their site as well. Elf has been advertising a bunch in the BMW Club magazine Roundel a bunch the past year.

I use the Motul 600 brake fluid in the racecars in place of the AP600 and am very happy with it. Not for street use. I have a friend that has a shop the does a lot of research on things like this and they are carrying Motul products. I started using the brake fluid since it was cheaper and I could drive a couple miles to the shop instead of having to mail order the AP600

In France, many Ferrari specialists use MOTUL 300 V engine oil.
This is a racing engine oil.

I am still in research to know if this oil is really the best one for my 328, compared to the factory specified Agip SYNT 2000 .

Yes, Frank. Some racing oils like Redline Racing Oil do not have detergents. Their street oils do though. The purpose of detergents in street oils are to keep the surfaces free of deposits and neutralize the chemical sludge and varnish precursors. This is not an issue in race cars since the oils are changed much more often.

Some of the Motul oils like those of Redline use ester (polyolesters) base stocks that are considered the "high end" of oils. Motul is highly regarded brand in Europe but is not well known in the USA. The UOAs on the Motul 300V Ester show detergents are used (Calcium and Magnesium).
