Want to upgrade. Will primarily be for personal use - connect to the home network (TimeWarner Cable), basic PDA, etc., etc. Aready got a CrackBerry for work-related stuff.

Would appreciate Noo Yorkers weighing in (Emil, that includes you!). Besides unit, also keen to know what you recommend on network - Verizon (current) vs. Sprint (can switch if recommended), or other??

    Many thanks.

Rob, go into the set-up mode and reduce the kenny's sleep mode from hours to a few minutes. Don't forget to increase the "Enter sleep mode" setting to about 45min. Responsiveness improves tremendously

I hated the 650, I found it did nothing super well, mediocre at best. Its not a pda, its not a great speakerphone, its not a better email machine then the 7100 crackberry.

It lasted one weekend for me, and went back....i havent researched the samsung, is it avail fr att/cingular?

I have the i730. Unlike the Treo it does have EVDO highspeed internet access. I can surf the web in EVDO regions(basically any city) at DSL speeds. Also, it is a Wifi phone so if you are near a wifi hotspot you can go even faster. I can also connect it to my laptop and connect through verizons wireless(you have to trick the phone to do this) I will say it is pretty frustrating as a phone but I haven't tweaked it yet-nothing major, just not the best phone to use while in the car. If you have bluetooth probably isn't an issue. The screen res is great and it is about the same size as the treo. Battery life can be an issue but If I'm going out for an extended period I just stick the oversized extra battery in it. Also, no camera.....

    Jim -

Thanks for the input. Why'd you choose this over the Treo - for the WiFi and internet access I assume? What speed does Treo browse the web at?

What about applets? Hundreds (thousands?) of applets for the PalmOne source. What about Windows OS?

Michael - thanks for discussing this morning. I checked with VZN and they offer an unlimited data package for $45. It ain't $20 like Sprint, but its there.

    Still researching.

You guys really know how to twist a guy's arm. - :D

    Ordered.

Needs to be on the Verizon plan as that is what is supported by the Company, but I think I'll be ok.

I went for the i730 mainly because of the browsing speeds. i found the treo and blackberry to be almost dial-up slow, not 100% sure on the exact numbers. Browse both side by side and you will be amazed. I also liked the overall function of the i730. funny how passionate the treo guys are about the phone. seems like a ton of resources for the phone. the $45 is a bit rich on the data plan but that didn't concern me.

I'm not a smartphone kinda guy (prefer mp3 phones) so I don't know if these are 'better'. But you might also want to look at some of these that aren't widely known to the business crowd in the US:

    HTC Universal

And with all technology, there'll always be something better coming out soon...Moto Q -

wow thanks for those write-ups I have never heard of that site before but it looks like it has some good stuff on it. I also like the nokia though I have not seen one to be able to try it out. Is it even out yet? Has anyone messed around with it?

I think all of them are out except for the Motorola Q. People in America usually don't know about all the good GSM phones cause T-Mobile and Cingular don't sell them. For example, the RAZR is already 2 generations old and I can't believe Cingular still promotes it like its the new hotness. Motorola is already selling the SLVR and the PEBL in other countries now. If you go to a store that carries imported phones, like in Chinatown, you should find some of these phones. Or you can buy them online.

Here's another possible contender: Moto MPx

I have a stupid question regarding the Treo. I have blackberry that I carry in my pocket and the phone frequently answers itself because the thumbwheel is pushed in from movement -- so I miss the call and somebody is listening to the phone in my pocket. I have the blackberry locked, but the phone still answers by thumbwheel. Does anybody know if the Treo has the issue (or a solution for the blackberry)?
