    Hey all,

I just got a Treo 700W and wanted to download one ringtone for it (yeah, the Magnum P.I. theme), but all of these sites make you subscribe for $10/month which is a jack if I've ever seen one. Has anyone discovered a site that actually might let you download even just one for free?

Depends on your provider. I have Verizon and with their ringtone service you only pay for the ones you buy. No month-to-month.

The thing that kills me is that a 30-second audio clip ringtone is $2.99, and a polyphonic (synthesized) ringtone is $1.99 through these things, and the whole freaking song is only $0.99 at Apple Store.

If you can hook it up to your computer, there are methods, I'll ask my brother to fill in if he can, he's got a bunch of ringtones.

Personally I don't bother with that crap, but each to his own :)

There isn't a built in mp3 player is there? I can't remember with the 700w if it has one or not. Usually mp3 player phones (like mine) can play the mp3's as a ringtone, all you need to to is plug it into the computer and move the mp3 onto the phone

Thanks for the link Patrick. I downloaded it to the Treo but for some reason it doesn't want to play. That's a great site if I can figure out how to maximize it!

    Cheers,

You guys owe me for this one. I have about 40 Ringtones on my phone all for free..

I'm assuming most people have bluetooth on their phone and computer too. Here is the link I have bookmarked to Verizon's GetItNow website that I can't seem to find normally anymore.

First find the song you want

Then right-click the listen button and do Save-As to download, or on macs hold down Option and click the listen button and that will download the MP3.

I then send the MP3's from my mac to my phone over Bluetooth. FREE RINGTONES!

And even if you don't have Verizon, you can still download the MP3's off their website.

I hate iTunes with a burning passion.

It won't let me upload the songs from the library because they're flipping "protected"

I just got an mp3 player instead of an iPod and its giving me the same sh*t.

I convert the mp3 on my computer to a bitrate that my pearl can recognize and use and then download it to my phone using the transfer software provided from blackberry.

bitpim has worked for me. It allowed me to transfer just about any mp3 file I've wanted and it's free. A bit tricky to setup and I'm not sure if it works on all phones.
