Why oh why do people do stupid things like that. What's this country coming to. Sorry for the hijack. Ok, where is Steve??
From the little info I find on the web, they haven't found him, Steve was flying a single-engine Bellanca Super Decathlon CNN says the plane had four to five hours of fuel for flight The plane did have an impact emergency locator that either has not gone off or hasn't been received by satellite Steve was wearing a watch capable of emitting an emergency distress signal and it too has not been received. Steve was in search of a dry lake bed to break the land speed record of aprox 766 MPH, his team hoped Fossett's turbojet-powered racer, Sonic Arrow, would be capable of exceeding 800 mph (1,234 kph).
I live in Yerington, Barron Hilton's Flying M Ranch (where Faucett took off from) is just south of town. Pretty interesting drive out there on a dirt road, when you hit this huge ranch mansion and a 5000' paved runway paralleling the dirt road. There has been a lot of light plane activity this morning, around dawn, so the search goes on. I have to run to a County Commissioners Meeting (I'm on the Library Board of Trustees), where the first agenda item, Bill No. 07-07: "an ordinance amending Lyon County Code, Title 5, Chapter 03, Subchapter 14 (prostitution requirements for prostitutes and other employees) by increasing the work card fees from $50 to $100, increasing the frequency of herpes testing, further prohibiting the issuance of work cards to persons convicted of possession of drug paraphernalia, and other matters relating thereto..." Dennis Hoff is the featured speaker Thought you might want to know.
good luck in city hall, Please keep us informed on Steve Fossett. the news get here pretty slow. I did a little reading on the net, I see Mustang Ranch was moved, renovated and has re-opened this past August

Would they be doing the same thing for any other citizen if they weren't rich? Then can search all they want, but the government shouldn't be using tax payer money to find a person almost a year later.
If he was a regular Joe nobody would give two poops except for family and friends. It's fine to use the National Guard and their equipment in the immediate aftermath but now? Stuff like that almost makes me want to quit paying taxes.
You sure it's taxpayer funded at this stage? I would think his family and friends are footing the bill now.
They can look all they like, they will never find him because a UFO came down and took him back to the mothership to study "craziness".
