I just sent off my Royal Oak for a thorough service-what can I expect to pay?

AP charges around $700. If it's still under warranty and not working well, you might get away with it. How strong is your dealer with them?

Thanks, that was what I was thinking.

It's out of warranty (a couple of years old). Unfortunately, there is no dealer around my area, so I went through Bailey Banks and Biddle.

The good news is that AP has revamped their service department. Before, you had to be without the watch for months as it went overseas and was trapped in a surfeit of watches for their small service center. Now they have a service center in the USA and turn around time is weeks instead of months.

BTW, throw a picture of it on here before you send it...

That is very good to know as I am looking at trading up to an Offshore once I get it back.

I was expecting it to take a few months, so I bought an Oris as an "inbetween" watch.

This is the only picture that I have of it:

Why put out the $700.00 when you can get someone with even better skills closer to home..

    http://www.rgmwatches.com/

Roland is a WOSTEP/Rolex trained certified master watch maker, he does complete rebuilds on any brand of watch, does a superior job of it, charges half of what you would pay at AP and you get a better job. Most watch companies have a solvent oil dip they place your movement in, clean it that way, put it back together and two years later, you send it in again...

    http://www.rgmwatches.com/repair.html

I have been working with Roland for a long time, he has fixed my Rolexes, my Auguste Reymond, my Omega's, my Patek's, Chopard, Breitling, etc...

I also have another guy, Felix, who has been working on my Dad's watch since the mid 1970's who also does a superior job...

In most cases the factory (Rolex, AP, IWC, Panerai) and many more will only sell parts to an authorized dealer or service center, unless they are getting the parts on the sly.

So does Omega... You're right, use the correct parts from the right manufacturer.

The funny thing is that both of them can make the parts themselves, including the gears and everything, and it's better quality than the manufacturer.. My Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow is proof of that, the 3303 Omega movement came from the factory with a problem with the chronograph (Bad Column Wheel)and Felix made the part up to the specs that Omega was going to send.. It's been perfect since...

Both of these guys are certified master watch makers, which means they can manufacture the parts if they need to and both of them have the tools to do it.

Rolands RGM watches are actually as high or higher quality as Rolex. Some of his models have a 5 year waiting list, and cost in the 100k+ range..

I love RGM watches. They are beautiful. Are they here in Denver? I've been to Right Time (both HR and on Colo Blvd).

But when I want him to work on something, I send it certified US Mail and it always get's there and get's back...

I have yet to get to Felix's new store, but I have heard it's nicer than the original...

    Yeah, I wish!!!!

Sent my Royal Oak Chrono in at the end of May for an adjustment and refinish.
Was quoted $1,800.00 and 10 to 12 weeks in September!!!

They took 3 months to return a quote!!!!!!!

AP Clearwater may be the best for authorized service, but the idea they are quicker is nonsense!!

Thanks, but I'm afraid my issue is of little importance to such an important individual in the company.

You should be in very good company, though, I would love to meet some of the luminaries of haute horology.

I've been a fan of AP since before it was "cool". I really like the Royal Oak design as well as their envelope-pushing mechanicals and technology. I just hope to have my watch back before Christmas. :)

I had returned my EOD to Cellini for a service about 5 years ago. The charge was $895 if I remember correctly.

Just got it back last night- $1155 including a complete refinish (being a daily worn watch for over two years put a few scratches in it).

Now, I am thinking of trading up to an Offshore. What is mine worth?

Not to spoil, but did you get a first-hand look at the new Survivor, by chance??

Would look really good with my collection of Assault Rifles!!

The survivor is HUGE and you're right, it'd match an assault rifle brilliantly!
