It seems other matters have stole the thunder from this but wondered what people make of apple and ferrari together with the FF now supplied with ipad minis and Siri installed.

I can see how useful Siri could be, and I think it was only a matter of time before apple emerged into been hard wired into the manufacturing side of production cars/entertainment units, rather than a plug in accessory.

My FF won't recognise an iPod mini, but works fine with an iPhone. It's a Nov '12 car.

It’s encouraging that they've reached out to a company with expertise in these systems to help them with better integration into their cars. It really bugged me that I could have an Apple-only dongle in the glove box of my 612 to play music from a device I didn't own or want, but not a simple USB interface to allow any other music player or cellular phone with music player/system to interact with the infotainment system. I like that my FF can interact so well with my Android and my Windows phones. I’m hoping this only enhances and improves on that interaction.

Yeah I think that if apple is to be hard wired into infotainment units they will make it possible to connect with other devices, just like you can use your apple products on a pc, or even operate your mac as a pc.

It's just they have this clever/simple ability to make the use of one apple product seem to work seamlessly with another apple product.

You know that Apple software expert Eddie Cue joined the Ferrara Board of Directors late last year. Apple's Eddy Cue joins Ferrari board of directors

You have to figure that there was a strong relationship even before this development. Despite all the recent Apple detractors, it remains a great company. I like to say that Apple and Ferrari are the two companies that people line up just to see their new products.

Just wait all of you Apple lovers until you have to plug into STUPID I-Tunes to update your suspension or engine software :D ... Yep, I carry an iPhone, have the orginal iPad, have a iPod in my FF and my California but am tempted EVERY day to throw them all away just because of stupid (I shall think of an F word here, maybe Fun? but strain while I don't use it:)) iTunes. That will be the day that I drop Ferrari (gag) and move to Lambo's.

From what I have seen, this "solution" is two independent iPad Minis mounted on the rear headrests. Siri is the standard on-board to control the iPads.

As the DVD has died, any onboard DVD-based entertainment system has become an antique, plus they are pricey, require the manufacturer to support them for a decade, and are a pain to repair. using a separate platform (i.e. iPad) both improves and simplifies that entire problem.

We've had several vehicles with the built-in DVD system; the kids use it rarely, but ALWAYS have their iPads on their laps. Same concept. Smart move, but this is FAR, FAR from thinking the iPad is integrated into the vehicle.

FWIW BMW has by far the greatest and deepest level of Apple integration, though everyone is catching up. We bought an iPad rear seat holder for it last year....genuine BMW part.

FWIW the VR system on the stock FF infotainment unit (Harman-based, Chrysler sourced) is actually pretty good, though not as natural language friendly or versatile as Siri.

No **** !!! I flipping hate Apple ---- their products and their image.

I can see it now...... quote from Siri, "Hello, I am your Ferrari. I see that you are trying to engage the starter in your new <insert model name> --- did you know we have an app for that ? Please log into your i-Tunes account to authorize payment and download it directly to your i-ECU ".

I am with 'ya brother :) (except I'll defect to McLarens & Astons rather than Lambos ;)).
