Thanks for sharing. Did you manage to get wireless CarPlay from whatever update they could perform, or do you think that goes hand in hand with the update that controls the display through the center tablet? This is so bizarre that it’s market dependent! Andy Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I just checked and the wireless function does not work. Also the Navi screen in the tachometer shows an arrow when I use car play for maps, however the arrow is just frozen…. Very annoying! You can also see the speed limit in the tachometer too. Image Unavailable, Please Login May the Horse be with you
So sorry that the upgrade was not what you /us were hoping for, thanks for sharing. The features you are showing are on my current version, so I guess nothing new. sad!
I also contacted my Service Advisor and this was his response: _ From what we can see, your Roma is updated to the latest software at this time. There isn’t quite a clear answer as to whether or not it’s possible for your Roma to have it uploaded neither. May be best to hang tight to see if Ferrari releases another software update specifically for your model or not_ The latest update performed 12/22 does display the CarPlay arrow on the side in the tachometer home screen. Like a few of us have noticed, this arrow doesn’t change other than randomly coming on and off; more a distraction than any useful information. Seems that NA cars have a different infotainment system OS which precludes it from receiving the new CarPlay update. We can only hang tight if Ferrari and/or Apple is working on an update for NA. Ironic that Eddy Cue is on the Ferrari NV board and wonder if he is even aware of this issue. Ferrari appears to be prioritising updates for Europe and ROW. Thanks Scott, It's always fun to take a trip down to Ferrari BH. 100% the Navi is now so much better, even the service manager confirmed that the interface and talking to the satellites has been resolved which is totally acceptable and I will use this until the Car Play is sorted. I actually received my vehicle purchase survey yesterday from the Mothership in Italy and I made sure that at the end I requested this matter to be resolved. I think all of us should hammer the factory so that they are on the case!
*** new 2023 Roma received today. Mine has wireless Apple Car Play on the center screen. Also the view max feature in the other gauge screen has been 86.
Thank you! That is amazing! When you say center screen this is not the tachometer screen but the screen with the HVAC controls? May the Horse be with you
as soon as you connect your phone through Bluetooth the car now says wireless Apple CarPlay is available and then it appears on the HVAC screen. ViewMax is gone from the gauge cluster and the new steering wheels no longer have a ViewMax button
More hope if we know the infotainment hardware did not change with the 2023 model. Channeling the CarPlay display to the centre touchscreen should be no more resource intensive for the GPU; its been implemented by numerous other manufacturers. Together with the fact that it’s been successfully updated on European cars makes me suspect that the issue is prioritisation of resources. Wireless CarPlay became standard for 2023 models with an increase in base price, so the developers were prioritised on shipping the latest and best software for the new cars. If reports from some NA dealers are true that it’s not yet released for existing cars because it’s glitchy, then let’s hope resources are currently debugging it and not committed to development for a new model i.e. Purosangue. ViewMax was a button just to the right of the touchpad on the steering wheel in early models. It has since been disabled. Good discussion about it (and “HMI Infotainment” software update) here starting on page 193: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/ferrari-roma.612204/page-193 Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Thought I’d share what appears to be latest official update for NA performed on my car in 12/22 and taking my SA’s word for it. Software version 97.08.01 HMI version V-6.110-ASIA Bluetooth version 5.5.3 EB Speech version 5.0.0 GN Data version 31.03.21 ISP Camera FW version 02.00.00 Radio version RAD APP US 03.01.01 I connected my iPhone using BT and it asks whether to sync contacts. Wireless CarPlay connection was not offered, so I connected through USB. CarPlay only displayed on instrument panel of course. Haven’t used the native “Navi” app much before so don’t have much comparison. I decided to try it and as @Condor Man noted, the user interface feels more responsive and seems to triangulate GPS signals quicker. However, it loses tracking abruptly when signals are lost under cover; route guidance just stalls until GPS reacquires signals which it does quite quickly. On one occasion, it exited guidance and never recovered. There was no notification and I only knew because there was no prompt for a turn I was familiar with. Most nav software will buffer and predict route progress when signals are lost and provide warning prompts. Looks like ViewMax is gone for good because I don’t even see the faintest image of the icon on my steering spoke. The Navi controls in centre touchscreen are more intuitive and less distracting to use than the steering touchpad. Destinations can be searched and selected from contacts in the “Phone” app but found a bug. If a contact has multiple addresses e.g. home and work, selecting one just jumps to the Navi map screen without setting the destination. I had to re-enter the destination manually. Works fine if contact just has one address record. Once set to Go, the map display on centre touchscreen and guidance map (either side of tachometer) is rather good (progress bar). Prefer this layout than CarPlay for driving, so will probably retain this set up until the US cars receive the update which places CarPlay on centre touchscreen. Until then, the CarPlay and wireless charging options ($4,800) in my car are redundant[emoji849]. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Congrats on your Roma! That’s a promising sign for the US market software update, too. Thanks for sharing. Andy Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Update; Yesterday morning I received a call from Ferrari USA on the East coast and they apologized for the center screen not working with Apple Car Play and that they were working on a finalizing this shortly. They noted that Car Play is now working on the SF90 centre screen which was a very promising sign! Stay tuned!
Just watched Harry’s Garage review of the Purosangue. CarPlay is on the tachometer screen presumably because there’s no centre touchscreen. Instead, it has a passenger screen, larger than the optional one for the Roma. Has ViewMax like the earlier Romas. Seems odd to me that Ferrari are going back to the original user interface design. Hopefully they iron this out. The Purosangue now has some sort of break in between the pad so that you can tell where the actual required button is.
Fingers crossed! It’s excellent on the center screen given its dimensions. Much better than on my Porsche’s. It’s like an iPhone Max Max
Congratulations! I have a Euro-spec 2021 Roma and have been asking my dealer about Car Play on the center screen. They look at me like I’m crazy. Can you send us a photo of what it looks like so I can show them? Thanks, Richard
