I don't own any Mac products and all my computers are Windows based. I want to use an IPOD to download music from Apple's store. Has anyone used an IPOD with Windows to download music? Is it easy to do? Is it better to have a Mac with the IPOD?

ps I did do a search on this site about the IPOD. It seems everyone who has an IPOD is using it with Apple products.

Rumor has it the IPOD has an internal battery that can not be extracted. No matter how much you use it, it will only last 18 months, tops. If you use it everyday, that time could be down to a year. Then call up the service rep and ask where to buy a battery. He will say it's cheaper to buy a new one.
That's what I have heard. May not be true. But it could be. Check it out.

Not in my case. I've had an IPOD for years and no real battery issues. I guess the most I've run it is 5 hours w/o charge. I don't know if it would go more - never tried. The battery still takes a good charge. Also, there are websites that show you how to replace the battery if you are mechanicaly inclined. Looks a lot easier then some of the Ferrari repairs. There are other good players on the market now, so look around before you buy.

It is extractable (there is a tutorial somewhere). Apple have recently re-released the 20gb version with a longer lasting battery and at a cheaper price (figgures. Less than half a year after i get mine :( )

Apple also offer some warrinty thing where they will replace the battery if/when it does run out. i think its something like $50

I have an ipod works great with Windows. One strange thing is it is built so you cannot download songs (in folders) into a second computer, in other words if you have 500 albums at home you can't load on the ipod and then download on your work computer...until now!

There is a program call Media Center that does exactly that. Nice and easy backup. Not to mention an ipod can backup non-music files, like say, for instance your Quicken at work, so it gets to be a deductable office expense! It is really quick downloads compared to Musicmatch which comes with the iPod

The iPod is awesome, and dont believe the rumors. The iPod has been around for more than 18 months and still being used.

As to it being used with Windows, yes it can be. Apple iTunes is generally neccessary, and I quite like iTunes.

I use a mac, and I will continue to use macs. I prefer their stability, speed, and general invulnerability to virus's.

You should look into Macs. Ferrari owners and lovers should appreciate owning the Ferrari of computers ;o)
