2 months ago i bought an ipod and have its itunes on my pc which runs windows XT. Any way i am about to buy one of my sons there own i pod, but have learned today that i cannot plug my sons ipod into my itunes music librery becourse each ipod is mached to each itunes librery......what!!
I have been told that this is to stop piratcy, but i dont down load from the internet i transfer my CDs to my itunes store and then transfer them to my ipod. So if the computer and ipod talk to each other, then why i wonder cant they see that the music is not downloaded to my computer/itunes files from the net.
I cant see any way around this other than buying another computer with my new ipod, and then buy yet another computer and ipod when my other son wants one! This cant be right can it? Has any one else had this problem?
Its took my hundreds of hours converting my CDs to the itunes as apple encourage you to, but what about the other ipods that may be in the family?
I dont know alot about computers or what can be done with ipods but if this problem cannot be solved then i will have to look elsewere for my mpgs other than ipod. Am i over reacting is there a simple solution?
Can any one advice me please.

Cris, how do you load tunes on each ipod? Becourse if what i have been told is right, your computer will only talk/interact with one ipod only, have you got three computers? Thanks for the responce mate.

Sorry, i didn't make myself clear. We each have our own computer. I would think that itunes can recognise different users on one pc otherwise they are limiting their sales to one pc per person, which doesn't make sense imo

It all does not make sense to me either. After all the music is from familys CDs that we all share.

chaa- Have you tried multiple Ipods from one PC and it didn't work?

From what I've read, ITunes can manage multiple Ipod's - each one will show up in Itunes individually.

(edited to add: At least on the Mac version. )

    Shouldn't be a problem.

From the Apple US web site:

"You can include the music in your iTunes music library on more than one iPod, so if you and a family member, for example, enjoy the same music, you can each link your iPod to the same iTunes library. You can’t, however, link an iPod to more than one library, which means you can’t add songs from someone else’s collection to your iPod."

Your purchased songs may also be stored on 5 "authorized" computers.

Unless there are some additional constraints in the UK, you should be good to go.

Could be, but the web site says:

"You can copy songs you purchased from the iTunes Music Store to a different authorized computer.

When you purchase a song from the iTunes Music Store, you're allowed to download it once. To play purchased music on a different computer, just copy the song files and authorize that computer. You can authorize up to five computers to play your purchased music......"

By "devices" do you mean computers, or iPODs, or both?

I don't have an ipod, but my friend does and he just loads up MP3s. I believe there are ways around all the little anti-piracy stuff the Ipod uses, but if you used Itunes to rip your CDs and download your music, you may have to submit.
MSG me if you need alternative suggestions.

I don't know about the multiple ipods on a single computer, but that seems to have been solved. I know that if you need to transfer music from ipods between computers, you can access the music by accessing it as a hard drive and showing hidden folders and they're all in a folder. It makes a new folder for each update, so depending on how many times you've updated it there could be a lot of folders. mine had 40+ one time I went in there.

the reason for this is because every ipod has a different serial number so to make sure people are not doing anything dogy they made a libary for every single type of ipod.
