I waited forever to upgrade my 4gs phone to the new operating system because of what I had heard about the problems with the new (non google) map app.

I heard from some others that the kinks were really not as bad as people had reported and the guys at the apple store that the issues had been fixed.

I bought an iPad mini and it came with the new app. I also updated my phone after a successful trial run. I liked the new GPS driving directions that moved with you and said them out loud. I figured I could leave the Garmin at home now. I am on the road every other week so I use GPS a lot.

So those those things are good.

What is not good is that there are errors with locations, there are missng street names when there are more than one word. And for some reason, it recently sent me out of the way with complex maneuvers for a very simple three connection route.

So I am glad whoever was responsible for this debacle was fired or stepped down.

M favorite is sam's club located in the middle of a neighborhood with houses and no commercial for 10 miles in any direction. So I have wasted time looking for places, going to the wrong places, etc.

How can I get an app by google? Is it google earth? Or an app by another company?

I need the recommendations so I can use an app that actually works.

    Please give me suggestions.

    Thanks.

Google Maps or Mapquest. Both are free and in the Apple App Store. Open it up, search, download, use, enjoy life.

My main problem is that you don't have an avoid tolls option with apple maps like you do with the google app. By default the apple map will try to avoid tolls but it isn't always guaranteed.
Last weekend I used both maps extensively and found them to be fairly comparable other than the avoid tolls issue.

Agreed, but Apple had to do it. Google's Android is the iPhone's #1 enemy. And iPhone users were generating tons of ad revenue for Google via the map app.

Google Maps has a more up to date database of locations because it's been beat up by the world in 15+(?) years of use.. and evolved all along the way.

Apple will get there too. It will just take time. A bunch of programmers sitting in a room can't update the whole world. You need input from millions of people.

For now, Google Maps can be downloaded separetly as a 3rd party app. (Apple caved to the outcry)

it's just surprising it's as bad as it is though. steve jobs would never normally allow a product out to the public that hasn't been thoroughly tested and debugged.

i dont know what my problem is then.

I was a big google maps user on my iphone 4 a couple years ago... but on my 5 its horrible. I was out in california and i used my phones nav to get me around. 3 times my phone literally took me to a wrong spot. Took me to the city center not the actual address despite it being in the address bar.

Also, and it is highly likely it is user error but I paste in an address and then it tries to take me to a different address, city center or drops a pin. It infuriated me.

Went to apple maps... paste in... hit route great directions, voice commands which I typically hate but they weren't too intrusive, and good guidance such as stay left on exit.

Super helpful. I was surprised how good it was
