Do you have a website or someplace with a resume? You need to present yourself, as I'm sure most here are just scratching their heads.

 

Well, you just walked into the board room with no real explanation. This site moves fast and has the opportunities, but you've got to be prepared with a strong presentation.

If I were your mentor, I'd be pulling you aside for a 5-minute break and discussion right now. What I'd be telling you is "What you just did was a 'cold call'. When you 'cold call' someone, you're the one in charge because the recipient doesn't know who you are or what it is you want. Being in charge of the conversation means having an objective for the conversation and a plan (or script) to get to that objective. No plan survives contact, so be on your toes and be ready to wing it. You will be judged by how well you come across and how much of your objective you achieve. Now go and prep better and let's try that again."

What's your objective for a new position? Are you looking for growth/new experiences in the IT field? Do you want a chance to run IT for a large/larger company? Do you want to get out of IT, but hope to use it as a springboard to a new career? If something new, what are the parameters of an "ideal opportunity" for you? What distinguishes you from your IT colleagues or another "apprentice" making a similar request? Are you open to relocation or do you want to stay in NY? Also why did you choose FChat to broadcast your request? What did you think would be the benefit/gain for making your request on this forum?
