Hi All, In your guy's opinion How much would it cost to do a ground resto on this particular 328GTS. Also assuming that the engine/powertrain has to be torn open and rebuilt. I am also going to presume that the Dingle Bearings will have to be replaced too..... https://classiccars.com/listings/view/865300/1987-ferrari-328-gts-for-sale-in-astoria-new-york-11103 Regards
I looked. Still not worth it even if the engine is good. Too many good 328's out there to spend $56 on a dog. There are several on Ebay in the 70's that look pretty good that you can just go out and drive. Just cosmetically this toilet is 30G's from being as good, forget the mechanical travesties you will find.
Why bother, this one is listed for $10K more, but it's nearly fully sorted and has a lot of recent work done, a PPI and CarFax available --> http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/537366-backstory-grigio-rosso-328gts-ebay-%40-%2466-500-bin.html There are also one or two in the $70 - $75K range that look pretty good. Winter is setting in and 328's don't seem to be moving to quickly, maybe room to negotiate before spring. (I might go $20K on the one needing "recommissioning".)
You are new here. I have been in this business for over 40 years and trust me, you will never ever save yourself into a Ferrari. Don't buy fixer uppers.
Oh Hi, Sorry I actually have ZERO! intent of buying this one. I was just wondering what an approximate US$ dollar value would it take to get it back to presentable and driveable condition. Was just wondering approximate Parts and labor costs on a car this far gone. Regards
Close to what they are asking for it if no major mechanical work was needed. I love 328's, have one myself and when asked for an estimate for an engine overhaul I won't bother. I tell them to go buy another. It's cheaper.
I like those cars if the price is "right" and the mechanics are sound. They make great drivers and can be enjoyed to their absolute fullest without being held prisoner by the very though of getting a slight rick chip somewhere. Too many here find a good 3X8 to simply own and drive then pass on it because it will cost twice to bring it to concours condition. So? Who cares unless you plan on competing on the field. They all don't need to be perfect. They just need to be enjoyed.
I'll take a swag and let the cognoscenti take turns with it: $25K for the engine $25K for paint $15-20K for interior Can't see the mechanical bits or electrical so no idea on those, but guessing it would easily be $10K min.
Don't want a concours car either but that thing is a wreck. I don't want my neighbors to see it. If it got parked on the street somewhere it would get towed away. The interior is baked and faded and under the hood is an example of how corrosion takes place on different metals and finishes. If it has that much corrosion under the hood I can just imagine what it looks like under the car. Its a parts car in my world.
That one not so much. The problem with cars like that, it is very rare that it just got parked and left to rot because it was in such perfect condition when it happened. Like a box of Cracker Jacks, there is almost always a surprise.
Brian, Your advise about not doing an engine overhaul, and just buying another one instead. Does that apply to 308s also? Thanks. Jim
If the car is working and no rust: 12 k the engine, 15 k the paint, 4-5k the interior, 3k minor things. Total is 35 k. If the engine is bad and the car has 150 k miles: 35 k the engine, 30 k the paint, 5 k the interior, 5 k electrical, 5k minor things. Total is 80 k and a concourse condition car Ciao
Why should there be a rebuild ? just because a F purist want it to be rebuild or what ? I dont understand you guys...or maybe you want to scare potential buyers just because there is personal intrest ? Buy that car and drive it. When there are problems, just deal (repair it) with them. Guido
You are right: I just answered a question. If the car works (well), you can keep it as is, of course. ciao
That is exactly what I was saying - but some are just a little passed that point. This appears to be one of those. Spend better money on one that doesn't have a sun baked interior.
There was a much nicer low mileage car for sale in Woodbridge Canada (on Ebay) and they could not get over $45K bid on it. They wanted $60. May still be available. I would not touch that Gullwing car at anything near the price they are asking. If it made sense to clean it up they would have done it. If it came up at auction and if I could do all the mechanical work myself, I would bid $30K no more. If it turned out to be a can of worms I think you could get your $30K back in parts.
