As some of you may remember, my 911 blew its engine in January just before the finals of the reality show. In a few short weeks, my car will be brought back from the dead with a brand new heart - a 3.6L VarioRam engine from a 993! I am expecting more than 300hp for my car's svelte 2,460 lb body.

I'll probably break the car in April 8/9 at the track and then off to the dyno to see the results. One of the shops at MSR now has a dyno on site so I wanted to gauge interest in having a dyno day there. Best dates look like April 15 or 16. Afterwards members can take folks for rides and I'd be happy to serve some adult beverages at the Villa for those that want to watch the action from the balcony. I am planning on staying overnight on the 15th, others would be welcome to do the same.

Let me know your interest and I'll contact the shop and try and set something up.

I might be interest in the dyno day. I should have the R with the new engine in it by then. It would be nice to see the car in stock form before I reinstall the turbo on it.

Tax day dyno run sounds good to me, especially since the other dyno shop flaked out. Costs and such would be appreciated.

One up by Denton? I had planned to return shortly with the RX8 for comparison with my stock run there.

Yeah -- type in "Acura" as a make on the controller, and it adds 100 HP to the chart........

LOL - It needed a REAL "Italian Tune Up". All those 50-80 HP FIAT runs were building up carbon in the dyno. It needed a good 350 HP BMW pull clearing the pipes. :D

    haha yea hype R power.

I put the M3 on there at it didn't like it, apparently it doesn't like it when the rear wheels move and the fronts don't, even the TC off it cuts the fun off at ~6000rpm.

I spoke with Shannan McMasters and the dyno is available April 15. Let if know if you want to run your car and I'll line it up for us. We can rent the dyno out by the hour or just negotiate a rate for 3-4 runs each. I'll firm up pricing the middle of next week once I have a headcount but these things generally don't cost more than $60 or so.

Its a member day also that day. If you have solo'ed on the track before you can drive as my guest. I am only allowed one guest so whoever yells first gets the spot. It's $20 for each 30 minute session. I'll also be happy to take passengers out while I drive.

Adult beverages will be served at the Villa for those who just want to watch from the balcony.

Urgh, hopefully it is one of the crew running the dyno, I need Shannon racing his RX8 down at MSRH so I qualify for contingency money! Sounds like he isn't racing though.

I got the engine back in the R, but it still smokes a little :(

Looks like there is some oil on cylinder 3 spark plug.

I would be interested in some track time at MSR with it back to stock, if they allow for some smoke at start-up.

I'm gonna pull the plugs again tonight and see how much oil is on cyl 3. I drove the heck out of it yesterday with someone following and there was not any smoke at speed just at start up.

If I dyno I would only need 1 or 2 runs.

I might be up for it, I've never had my car on a dyno before. I would be interesting to say the least. 2 pulls is good enough but I'd like to try it with a test pipe if I can. The only problem is finding one in time. If not I can still do without.

OK, lets get organized. Here is the regular pricing (worst case scenario).

    3-4 pulls $59
    3-4 pulls with air-fuel measurement $79
    Extended use $100/hour

We'll probably use the last option. I'll negotiate something once we know how many we have. Let's plan on meeting 10am on Saturday, April 15th. That will give us a couple of hours before lunch. How about we grill up some burgers at the Villa?

The afternoon is then free for the track.

    Confirmed headcount:

Was that you that came by the back-straight corner worker station (on the wrong side) on Sunday at MSR? :)

Count me in Rob, but I think all I need is 2 pulls at the most. If I do take my car out on the track, will we be using the 3.1 new section or the original road course?

    Thanks

Yes, my engine stalled. The install of the new engine was completed the day before and that was the first shake down run. When the engine died I pulled off the track and tried to roll to the corner station to get out of the way. I didn't want the session Black Flagged. Once I stopped I was able to restart and just re-joined the session.

It stalled a second time while on track later in the day. I was able to restart it while rolling. The rest of the day the car ran great. I've got the mechanic from Mayo's who did the install coming out to MSR to meet me on Friday and trouble shoot. Leading theory is something electrical.

You'll need at least 3 pulls for a good baseline. You'll get a different reading each time, you'll want to do 3 to make sure you got an accurate reading.

On Saturday they are running the 1.7 mile (original) course.

Yeah, I was hoping you were going to get it moving so we didn't have to black flag the session and call for a tow. And if you get out of the car, I think they want it red-flagged.

In the last session on Sunday, I got to go out with #21 in the instructors group. Holy smokes, what a ride. I have done the 1.7 on my motorcycle and had puttered around the new section getting to corner worker stations, but taking that new section at speed was a thrill ride.

I think the new section would be WILD from the passenger seat. The blind sections must be scary when you don't have control of the wheel. That was my first time on the new track. I was lost on my first two sessions but started to get the hang of it and drove pretty well on my last two. I missed Saturday so I only had the 4 sessions on Sunday to learn it. The triple apex turn is the toughest, I can't figure out the braking zone or the turn-in.
