    Hello all.

I would like to start off saying that if I have posted this in the wrong forum I am sorry and obviously feel free to move it where it belongs!

I have been on this forum for a couple of years...but I RARELY post. You can see that in a year and a half I have only gotten to 62 posts...which I think might make this a little harder for me...

I am a photography student in Santa Barbara. When I first started school I did an automotive photoshoot for a couple of the guys in the SoCal forum. Lets just say that I was a little inexperienced at that point, but I have had a year and a half to 'mature.' Anyways, I only have 6 more months left and I just took the Architectural Photography class my school offers. Well on Monday I start the ADVANCED Architectural Photo class but there is a big difference in the two classes...this time I have to find my own houses/businesses to photograph.

So I realize this is a longshot but I kind of don't know what else to do. I am also going to try to contact some local Architects/Interior Designers and see if they need any photos.

So if anyone would like some nice photography done of their home or business (Interior or Exterior) please let me know. Again, I realize this is a longshot, nobody here knows me and I don't blame you if you don't want to let a perfect stranger into your home, but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask because I am going to need all the places I can get.

So if you are interested, keep reading...

I would need the home/business to be in Southern California.

If it is an interior shot than I might need to move around some furniture or knick knacks to make the photo look 'cleaner' or more simple. (VERY CAREFULLY of course!)

My teacher is requiring us to have a signed 'contract' that basically says that any third party usage will need to be run by me, the photographer. (so basically if down the road you want to sell your house and want to use the photographs I took to give the realtor to use for brochures or something you have to contact me first because I own the copyright for it.)
The contract also explains that because I own the copyright that I can use the image(s) for my portfolio and website (not for selling).

I am going to need to set up anywhere between 1 and 5 lights and I would say it would probably take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour per room, depending on how big it is...so if this is too much for you I completely understand.

Thats all I can think of right now...so if after reading all that and you are still interested please contact me by either replying to this/PMing me/ or you can email me at [email protected]

I have posted some images that I did in the last class so you can see what you will be getting. I am in the process of getting a website up since I am graduating soon, but I wish I had that now so everyone could just check out the rest of my photography.

Anyways, thank you all so much for 'listening' and taking the time to read this and I look forward to (hopefully) hearing from some of you:)

    Thanks again,
    Jess

I've been a professional photographer for 30 years. I think getting your website up & running is very important for an instant portfolio. You might try contacting the offices of gated upscale communities as these homeowners will be primo targets for many reasons. Walk in w/ a stack of business cards & a nice portfolio case of 15 or so mounted photos. Have a price sheet prepared on your professional stationary. If you aren’t good w/ graphic design, find a fellow student to help you design cards, stationary, website, etc. Remember: presentation is everything. Look the look of a pro & win them w/ your honed interview skills. You need to get your name out there. Try real estate companies & newspapers too. Be available at a moments notice. Architectural Digest – here you come! Good luck.

Yes, I'm thinking those are some pretty good photos.

Jess, try contacting some up-scale builders in SoCal. You may get some positive response.

    +1!

Have you thought of contacting hotels in your area?

Best of luck Jess, hope your project turns out well! (and please remember to let us all know your web address when you have it - I'd love to see more of your work)

Edit: do your subjects have to be upscale, expensive etc, and is it necessary for the rules of your project to have the contract? I'm a huge fan of architecture - both new/modern/maintained and dilapidated buildings. Could you maybe do some photos along the lines of the ones on websites such as www.derelictlondon.com/derelict_london_com.htm www.28dayslater.co.uk and www.urb-ex.com (though I'm not sure breaking and entering as some of the posters on such sites do is the best or safest idea...)

Thanks for all the replies everyone:)

I am planning on contacting some architect firms here in SB, and thanks to some suggestions I will also try hotels and restaurants. I was really hoping for some nice upscale homes because I did a lot of commercial stuff in the last class, but oh well it doesn't look like that is going to happen! lol

Dongerdude: my teacher is a pro architectural photographer and he pretty much wants us to shoot upscale homes and businesses because that is what he does...I guess maybe he has the idea that 'lower' homes can't be beautiful also. I enjoyed looking at those websites, I really like old buildings about to fall down and other not-so-'pretty' architecture, I wish i could shoot stuff like that for this class!

Thanks again everyone...maybe I will get lucky and someone will offer their home to me for a couple hours:)

As requested, here are a couple more pics. Enjoy!

    -Jess

p.s. I think I forgot to mention in my original post...I am doing this for my portfolio for my class. I am still a student learning. Therefore, I am doing this shoot free of charge...I just need photos for my portfolio.

Hi Jessica - it doesn't seem that you've gotten any leads yet. I may have one in Santa Monica if that's not too far for you. Send me a pm and I will forward the contact information.
