Maybe 15-20 years ago I ran across a young fast-rising lawyer named Richard Pierce in the posh suburb of Encino CA who showed me in his garage two pristine
427 Cobras which he was making with a partner in Chicago (using chassis made by Brian Angliss in the UK) and planned to sell, along with three more being built, as real Cobras, using the SN of "totaled Cobras." I thought this dubious because even at that time when Cobras were only about $50,000, very flattened Cobras were often bought from the junkyard and rebuilt.

I would have found out more at the time of our meeting except that, soon after I met him, he met an untimely death.

I was wondering if anyone else knows more of the story and if his untimely death was involved with the faking of the Cobras or just one of those things that happens in the big city.

The original cars had a lot of British parts but I doubt the "chicken farmer" considered them to be British cars any more than the Nash Metropolitan was. :D

I would say his untimely death had something to do with the former.

I thought I read somewhere that the only American-made part on the car were the Goodyears - Shelby having been a Goodyear dealer at some point.

AC Ace body with a Ford powerplant built in Sweeden or something...
