It's recruiting time here at school, so I've been going to interviews and endless cocktail parties the past few days. The recruiting lawyers are always keen to talk about my new Ryalex Design venture, but their response about Ferraris indicates they know nothing about them and they act as if don't know anyone with one... are they that foreign to lawyers?

I'm waiting for *one* of them to say, "that's awesome... I have a 355" or something. I had one young lady associate who was rebuilding her old 911 who knew a fair bit about Porsches, but that's all so far.

Then I think about it, I know of at least 6 Fcar-owning PI lawyers here on Fchat - can you only get a Ferrari if you do PI? :) :p Maybe I'm talking to the wrong lawyers...

Aren't most lawyers stereotyped to drive MB's and Porches?

That's hilarious, my wife and I are both lawyers and that's what we have in our garage.

Oddly, the only practicing lawyers I know who have Fcars are plaintiff lawyers.

I think many people would be very interested in your business venture but I'd downplay the Ferrari aspect of it during the recruiting process. Many lawyers have very fragile egos and you might give them the impression you have money or that you aspire to have more money than they do and it will turn them off. I had been contemplating shopping for a 355 but decided to put it off for a while as I already get a fair amount of grief from people I work for/with about the 911.

All of the lawyers I had contact with while selling F-cars were interested in the Porsches on the lot. I think 10 or 15 lawyers showed a serious interest in buying a car each month, and nearly all of them were in search of a Porsche.

The F-cars were, for the most part, sold to doctors, business owners, and those people who, no matter what hits them in life, always end up on top because of their incredible work ethic and motivation.

What's odd is that I sold quote a few F-cars to podiatrists.....makes you wonder.

Also, a lot of the lawyers that I talked to wanted a P-car, and either had a new E55 or something at home, or wanted to trade a CLK or something in for the P-car. Go figure!

Large law firms, in my perhaps now outdated experience, tend to be pathological communities driven by greed, fear, envy and on occasion lust. You'd have to feel very secure to add "Ferrari owner" to your identity. Just my 2 cents.

They're F'n with yea. They already have a bad rap without throw'n "I drive an F-car everyone" in people's faces. Wait, you'll find out more as you get to know them, grasshopper.

I think there are 2 things going on. First very few Lawyers are gearheads to begin with. Second if you are interviewing at big firms the guys that are interviewing you are probably not the Senior Partners and so they are too busy trying to bill 2400 hours a year that they can't even think about fun. Plaintiff's lawyers are also generally a lot more fun.

I do feel very secure... and I feel that if that makes them not want me (for discomfort), well, then I don't want to work with people like that!

We shall see, there's still a few more weeks.

I've sold "veerryy" few cars to lawyers. They are, by nature, usually cheap. But of the ones that I did sell to, they mainly were Benz's and yes.......Porsches.

Lawyers are notorious for being grinders and negotiators (that's what they do for a living)........F-car stores sell cars by saying "take a number and wait....so you can pay MSRP or over list when your time comes"......that goes against most lawyer's nature because they have no control and can't haggle.

My two cents.........and no offence meant to the legal beagles here..........

True. As a general rule, lawyers are cheap, they nickle and dime you to death, and they make life difficult when it doesn't have to be difficult. Most attorneys, let's face it, are miserable bastards who take themselves way too seriously.

BTW, I am an attorney! As one who once worked in a 200+ firm, I was the only lawyer with an F car. A big firm is a lot like a village and non-conformity is frowned upon. The only attorneys I know besides me who own F cars are PI lawyers and one criminal lawyer.

Ryan, I can't see you in a big firm. You have too much ability!

    Mike :)

That's what I was thinking about the PI lawyers and Ferraris.

Thank you for the compliment Mike. Well, if the big firms continue to have their way in this recruiting process, they'll make sure I won't be in a big firm!
