Interestingly I had a similiar situation.

I was on the design review board of my community and when we wouldn't dissaprove another homeowners project after the boards rejection of our approval three times, they fired us all. Of course they ended up spending tens of thousands of HOA money to files suit and ultimately had to settle with the homeowner that got everything they wanted and more. Futher, in the settlement, the homeowner was not required to even get approval anymore. Just shows that typically it's the pin heads that want to be on these boards.

In our situation it was board members with haves and have not mentality. Here the issue seems to be political.

I hope the homeowner wins the ability to put a peace sign out during the holidays.

Just move the wreath inside the window. I'm sure there's nothing in the CC&R's that prohibits that. Some pesky neighbor complained over it.

 

I think it's stupid too. However, if people are forced to take down their religious items this should be taken down too.

I am thoroughly convinced that Home Owners Associations are composed of failed would be politicians whose views are so hard-line Stalinist in the USA, as the post above put it, that their only hopes of acquiring any power are through these walled and gated communities.

 

True that. One of my friends is one of these pricks that calls the HOA on every little thing.
