    Hi all-

I own a 1983 400i, and the previous owner painted the centers of the factory wheel spokes blue to match the car. I'm installing new tires this weekend, and while the old tires are off I'd like to remove the blue accents, as well as clean up a few glue marks left behind from old wheel weights.

Does anyone know if the wheel was painted silver or clear-coated from the factory? I didn't want to apply a goo remover to the wheel before knowing what else might be removed.

Thanks in advance for any info.

    Best regards,

    Bret

    Hi, Alan-

Thanks! Looks like they'll have to go off to the refinisher, and the tires will have to wait another weekend.

I'd try removing the blue paint using lacquer thinner. If the blue is from a rattle can the thinner will work faster on it than the presumably baked factory finish. The worst outcome is they go to the refinisher anyway.
