I was talking to the salesman I work with and he was lamenting about their allocation of "special" cars. They didn't get an Aperta, could have used 3 more (they got 3) LaFerraris etc. He said he heard of a dealer that was allocated 9 LaFs. Are there any US dealers that are owned by Ferrari corporate? San Francisco? If so, are their allocations of special and regular cars better than at other privately owned dealerships?

I'm not sure if any dealerships are owned by Ferrari, but some are owned by large auto groups like Penske.

I'm pretty certain all of the dealerships are franchised and none are owned by Ferrari themselves.

What you'll find is that certain dealerships have closer ties to the factory than others due to their location, how long they've been involved in selling Ferraris, personal friendships that have been built up over the years, the number of top end Ferrari sales that they make every years, etc., etc.

These dealers will always be able to get more of the "special" models than those who don't sell a lot of the top end cars, or have big sales figures every month, or know people high up in Ferrari itself on a personal level, or who are located in a city where the Ferrari market isn't so big.

The fact is, when Ferrari introduce a "special" model, the number of cars available is already limited so not all of the dealerships can have as many cars as they would like, and Ferrari will always give priority to those they either know best or have proven to have the best market for these cars.

And as for the LaFerrari, I think the allocation to the dealerships was more about who was the supplier to the selected customer.

Ferrari didn't just say to dealers: "Here are three LaFerrari's, sell them if you can!", basically they said to the dealers: "Okay, we have selected three customers who can buy our car and you are their local supplying dealer so we will be shipping these three cars to you on these dates".

I'll pretty much guarantee that the dealerships never got to request X amount of LaFerrari's to sell on.

Last I heard Ferrari of SF was still owned by Ferrari, but that was a couple years ago.

Not according to their own website it isn't (From: About Ferrari of San Francisco Bay Area | New Ferrari & Used Sports Car Dealership ) :

"Purchased by Boardwalk Auto Group in August 2009, Ferrari San Francisco is among the most distinctive Ferrari dealers in the world."

And Boardwalk Auto Group is owned by Scott K. Ginsburg (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Ginsburg )
