Are there any books about vintage Ferrari's you guys would reccomend?

I have loved them ever since i can remember but this was reinforced when i went to the Goodwood Revival Festival, the sound of all those V12's revving in unison in the Paddock was the closest i have ever come to those sorts of cars.

Help us out. Do you want general Ferrari, current Ferraris or focusing on the older models. Any specific period of Ferraris of special interest?

Fitzgerald & Merritt's Ferrari book. IMO, it's the gold standard.

If Amazon doesn't have it, check with any of the used motoring book dealers.

"Ferrari" by Hans Tanner, especially the later editions updated by Doug Nye; "Ferrari: The Man, The Machines" edited by Stan Grayson, for a good historical overview as told by those who lived it.

Depending upon your interests beyond the general history look for:

by Jess Pouret - 250GT (can't remember the exact title but it covers the TdF, SWB through GTO with the development, race histories and serial number by serial number history).

Again can't remember the exact title but the book that is Ferrari Lieutenant. The story of the man that was hired by Ferrari and did an assortment of roles: PR, race manager, confidant, etc.

by John Lamm and Chuck Queener - a collection of stories by people in the Ferrari world.

If you wish to start going much deeper then:

Marcel Massini & Anselmi - Making a Difference. The earliest Ferraris and the coachbuilders.

Joel Finn - 250 Testa Rossa. It may be old now (published around 1979/80) but it still is great information.

Are you already subscribing to Cavallino? They focus a lot on the history.

    Anyway, a start.

Also pick up a copy of Godfrey Eaton's "The Complete Ferrari" (1986). It's a one stop shop of information on Ferraris up through 1985 and has lots of photos, text and serial # info.

Beware, buying Ferrari books is an addiction and you can probably buy a nice 308 GT4 for what you'll sink into a serious Ferrari library. That being said, books are cheap to operate and do a great job of feeding the disease!

I've been looking off and on for an english copy of Enzo's memoirs.

I looked at Gozzi's book in a bookstore a few years ago, and I really should have bought it at the time.

    Donv,

I found the Gozzi book to be a very good read. It was organized as individual stories. All were from a very personal viewpoint.

There is also another book that Chuck Queener was part of that was by Phil Hill.

At a point on building the collection of books you can try getting each edition (this does not apply to me). Hans Tanner is at something like 5 now.

Wayne (El Wayne) posted a list a few years ago, that I have used as a search list. I've managed to acquire them all now, and have found each one to be a great source.

Some are easier to find than others, and some are strictly reference books, but all are interesting. You can pick up at least some of these from Gerald at www.FerrariMarketLetter.com

I would add 'Ferrari: Sports Racing and Prototype Competion Cars' by Antoine Prunet, covering all the factory's racing to 1973, and maybe 'The Grand Prix Ferrari' by Alan Henry.

And then there are lots of monographs, not just the GTO - 250LM, Sharknose, 512S & 512M, Dino SPs, etc, etc.

If you want to know how it all started, you must read:

Origins of the Ferrari Legend. It's by the master himself: Gioachino Colombo. Remember that the heart of every Ferrari is the engine.
