And I am specifically using the term Low Production to mean less than 3,000 total units (low today, but a lot until the 308 era). And I’m not using the term to mean 360s with a goofy color scheme that is only rare because few ordered them. In the $100k-200k area, there are several, such as a Scuderia, a high mile Challenge Stradale here and there, and a 550 Maranello (with the manual transmission being enough to differentiate it from the F1 575s for me).

A few months ago, I was looking at a couple of 308s. They were steel body Euro version GTBs in the carb era (’77-’79). They had some interesting aspects that were different enough from both US carbed cars, and GTS versions that they had a nice niche, and production-wise maybe a thousand units or less. Now it looks like they too cannot be had for $100k, but it’s a good example of a low production variant within a high production model.

Just curious to see if anything like that is out there for that price ceiling.

would be very surprised to hear otherwise unless it turned out to be 348/355 variant.

Production over a long period of time was 2,700....so fits the criteria, but not what I would consider personally.

I would consider all the variants as one model, so what is the total production?

There’s a reason the price is below $100k and that usually is that it’s rare but not desirable. :)

this is true, but may be irrelevant (maybe even advantageous - see Dino) depending on the OPs goals -- also definitely not static. My neighbor Don got laughed at when he bought a 275 and 330 to restore 40 years ago. He paid 20K and 2K respectively.

They produced just about 3000 612's. The earlier models can be had for under 100K.

And desirability certainly carries more weight - mid-year Corvettes and Jag E-Types are hardly "rare" but carry a decent price tag (good ones over $100K).

What about an ASA 1000GT or a Fiat Dino Coupe?

Just shooting from the hip, 348 SS? Maybe that too has jumped the $100k mark.

    :)

    wait wait wait. 2017 - 40 years = 1977. Adjusting inflation for $2000 in 1977 to Nov 2017 = $8,127.48 in Nov 2017.

    Yup. Still a win! :)

The secret is to predict the less desirable Ferrari,,,,,,that will eventually become very desirable.
I was very lucky to do this twice. But deep research is necessary.

Yeah, an actual real deal limited edition. They actually put a number on each one.

After a while Ferrari wised up and realized they shouldn't actually count the limited edition cars because, you know, they always made more than they said they did.

Yep. Check out the Ferrari's that happen to not be loved. There are always a few around. Or just go with you're gut.

Or I would echo what Napolis would say about collecting cars. Something like, buy what you want because you might be stuck with it for a while. Hard to go wrong with that.

A very well known and respected vintage ferrari owner once told me......if you think you paid too much for your vintage ferrari......just wait for a while.
