Interesting thing is that Rambo was banned but the thread continued on. Get rid of his ban, we need the humor, and the insults. Especially the insults.... It's gotten to PC around here, nobody can call anyone out. I'm pushing for a special place where we can insult each other. How about it Rob?

Possibly it's not that the majority of Ferrari owners or members of F-chat are white, but the majority of people who attend those functions are white? I know a lot of minorities are among my customer base, but at the events where I do meet and greets, almost everyone there is white. Possibly this is the same case? Us bored white guys like to get together and look at cars or whatever, and the minorities prefer to be out DRIVING THEIRS! ;)

In all seriousness, I have been a member for 2 years and I think this is the first time I have really even thought about race or the racial makeup of the forums. I always seem to notice when a woman posts here, since I consider them to be a rare find on a car forum (albeit a pleasant one since I find it an attractive trait), but I can't say I have ever really thought whether a post I read was written by a white, black, red, yellow, green, blue or orange human.

The original question referred to "minorities" and I believe that everyone, by virtue of their posting here, is a minority. There are 300 million or so people in the USA, more than 6 Billion worldwide, with a significant portion of those online. The number of people who post here don't even constitute 1 tenth of 1 percent of those with the ability to post, therefore the posters are an insignificant minority.

Another way to look at this - if a Nigerian living in Lagos posts on Fchat, he is technically in the majority as most people living in Lagos are Nigerians (some of whom are frantically emailing for help with massive fortunes unfairly impounded by some other government department, so they have no time to post on FChat).

This simply underlines the absurdity of the question. Everyone online posting here is a computer user, nothing more or less.

I have noticed that our society likes to segregate and separate into the 'us/them' mode. The facts are that this site is about Ferrari's, and the overwhelming topics are just that; nothing else. I am sure that someplace there is a website on race/gender/animal habits. From my perspective that is where you place this thread; not in a car enthusiast site. And for the record I am an American who just happens to be of Latin heritage or whatever the Sociologists want to call us these days.

This may sound stupid and overlly simplistic but WHY the **** does it matter?

I mean to be honest people here should be judged on the quality of their posts and nothing else. And to be honest I've NEVER seen ANY discrimination around here, EVEN between the owners and the enthusiasts camps....

To use the word "minority" is very ethnocentric among white Americans. This forum has people from all over the world, and caucasians are definitely not the majority! ;)

what society are you talking about? most societies i have ever visited or read about throughout history have segregated or separated into us/them. Maybe you could give a few examples of societies that don't? I agree though, this section is about ferraris, and since most people don't want to stay on the topic of the racial makeup of f-chat, it should probably move to p&r.

I am not a minority. I'm about as white bread as you can be, so I don't suffer personally from these indignities, but Jawad has a valid point, and it should get more attention here than it does.

I have on several occasions pointed out posts that were at least insensitive to race, but more likely racist in intent and tone, only to be shouted down by the same folks who posted it in the first place, along with their supporters as being hopelessly liberal, and clueless about what constitutes racism.

We've wandered back and forth on what is or isn't racist here. What is a racial slur, and what is a racist tone or intent. We have, without question, driven some minority members away with this crassness and insensitivity to race. We laugh it off, we poo-poo the guys who complain about because we are, after all, probably 90% Caucasian here. Why would we be racist, right?

Will it change? I doubt it. Is that unsettling for me? Absolutely. Do the folks who need to consider this the most appear the least willing or interested in doing so, you betcha.

With the turn away from racial theory in the late 20th century, the term "Caucasian" as a racial classification fell into disuse in Europe. In Germany and Russia, the term "Europid" or "Europoid" is used. Consequently, in the United Kingdom, the term "Caucasian" is more likely than in the United States to describe people from the Caucasus, although it may still be used as a racial classification.

Sarah A Tishkoff and Kenneth K Kidd state, "Despite disagreement among anthropologists, this classification remains in use by many researchers, as well as lay people." According to Leonard Lieberman, Rodney C. Kirk, and Alice Littlefield, the concept of race has all but been completely rejected by modern mainstream anthropology.

In 2003, United States National Library of Medicine stopped using the term Caucasian race in favor of the term "European".

In the United States, "Caucasian" has been mainly a distinction based on skin color with "white" or light complexion. Caucasians are also distinguished as a people who are, or whose ancestors were, "from Europe" .

Whether "Caucasian", "white", or "European" is used, it is also common in studies today to use the term "Latin" or "Latino/Latina", asking those with ancestral origins from Spain or Portugal to check that instead.

Which is not right because they are caucasians. I consider this to be racist towards the spanish speaking population. It freaks out many anglo saxons americans when they hear an Italian, Spaniard, Frenchman, Portuguese, Romanians, Canadians from Quebec say that they are latinos, latin, latini, etc. If this wasn't the case then how come italian americans don't fill the "latino" box at forms, questions, etcetera, but my italian relatives do fill the box just because they weren't raised here.

A lot of our population here in the U.S. is very ignorant when it comes to judge people races of other countries, even a lot of people here don't know their own backgrounds and racially discriminate against their own, a big lol.

this is universally true, not just americans. in fact, i would hazard to say the US is much less ignorant in these matters than the vast majority of the rest of the world. Go over to china and see how enlightened they are about race and national origin. Hell, go to spain. go to france or england and count the number of black presidential candidates or even elected officials at any level. The rap against the us is unfounded.

You are talking about nations which have been around 5 times longer than the US itself.. Places like England have a royal family and anyone out of the blood line (african, italian, german even english) have very low chances of taking power.
Spain is generally misunderstood when it comes to the black race - many africans who go to spain are lower class citizens, and since spain only, mainly consists of Iberian people (Portugues, Spanish, Basque) they take what they see and run. Moroccans are more disliked in Spain than africans, just because of what they bring to the country. Their racism is fuel by factual info atleast, but the racism which occurs in the US is mostly based on plain ignorance.. In the US i have found that when someone is speaking of a minority, another may automatically think black, then latino (in that order.) Asians are quite the minority as well, but are hardly regarded... In London for example, people hardly use the term 'minority' to describe someone. If you are english you are english, if you are italian you are italian, if you are german you are german, etc - but "white" does not really exist as a term, and likewise with black. European racism basically consists of who you are and where you are from. Its not as simplistic as the American racism which ends at the color of skin or voice accent. There are english people who dislike germans more than "minorities" for example. Or a better example - Irish people disliking English people (for obvious political reasons) in the same respect an Irish person will welcome any race.

Ignorance is ignorance.. Less ignorance is still ignorance..
