Something I've been trying to find an answer for, and I can't get a definitive one.

I know there were 43 Mondial t coupes produced for the North American market, all for the 1989 model year. And that the vast majority (if not all) of these had the Motronic 2.5 engine management system, like the 1989 348.

However, I also know that there are some "1989" model year Euro Mondial t coupes that have Motronic 2.7 (and, of course, all subsequent Euro t coupes, because there were Euro t coupes made after 1989)

So, are there any US/NA Mondial t coupes with Motronic 2.7? What was the serial # change?

Only references that I have come across are a little bit contradictory/confusing:

    The US Mondial t OMs indicate 1989 = Motronic 2.5 and US 1990 = Motronic 2.5 or Motronic 2.7 and US 1991, and later = Motronic 2.7

    but

The Engine Digit VIN info for US Mondial t at http://red-headed.com/vin_engine.html indicates 1989-90 = Motronic 2.5 and 1991 and later = Motronic 2.7

Maybe red-headed is just ignoring that the changover occurred in 1990 (so 1990 could be either).

One thing you might do is decode the VIN of the car and see what that says for the engine family it should have, then compare that to the engine family marking on the engine. For example, if the VIN decodes to an F119D040 (US Motronic 2.5) engine, but the engine is a F119G040 (US Motronic 2.7) = maybe an engine or injection swap (or F just did what they wanted whenever they wanted ;))? Just guessing. Is the "problem" that you have a 1989 US Mondial t with Motronic 2.7 injection?

Thanks Steve. No, I don't have a t coupe. I've just always been curious.

From what you've said, it looks like the answer to my question is that there was never a US/NA t coupe made with Motronic 2.7, because that change didn't happen until well into the 1990 model year.

Yes, that's how I read the tea leaves as well. I was hoping that the Mondial t SPC data might have some clue about the car SN, or engine SN, for 2.5 vs 2.7, but it's written more like "if you have 2.5, use this SPC page, and if you have 2.7 use this other SPC page" (with no SN information at all).
