If yes, I would really appreciate if I posted one here and ask for your input. Also I would be much oblidged if the connoiseurs of this forum helped me in a potential purchase. I've always wanted one and I think the time has come. Not looking for a concours example, I just want something to drive and enjoy. And if ever my children or grandchildren decide to keep it they can restore it to their liking (and their expense). So is it ok if I post here?
If you become a subscribed member(Silver or Rosso) you can post a listing in the Classified section under Ferrari. When creating the listing you can choose "Wanted". Best of luck!
Ok. Thanks! So here it goes. in continuation of this thread: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/let-me-tell-you-a-little-story.704083/ This is one of the cars that I am interested https://www.autoscout24.com/offers/ferrari-246-gasoline-brown-22071815-62b7-44e5-b1c5-29c36b70229f?sort=standard&desc=0&lastSeenGuidPresent=true&cldtidx=1&position=1&search_id=17ejrg0ftpv&source_otp=t30&ap_tier=t30&source=listpage_search-results&order_bucket=4&new_taxonomy_available=false&mia_tier=t30&boosting_product=mia&relevance_adjustment=boost&applied_mia_tier=t30 What the add says: Vehicle belonging to the Dolhem / Pironi family from 1976 to today. 1st hand in 1972 Verrier Guy, car driver, judoka Restoration of bodywork and chassis at MALLIER RACING MOTOR from 2001 to 2004, cost of work €61,810.67 Restoration of the gearbox and removal of the engine with change of seals plus revision from 2011 to 2013 at Dino Sport, costs of work 12,557.19 € Charles Pozzi revision plus various change in 2015 at 111,362 km €9909.80 Fiorano Racing Revision plus various changes in 2017 at 111,745 km €6527.65 Fiorano Racing Revision in 2021 at 112,377 km €1185.43 Fiorano Racing Revision in 2023 at 112,377 km 3043.62€ Could you please kindly provide your input before I contact the seller and ask for a PPI?
Oh! Do I have to subscribe? No worries, I can do that. to the moderators: sorry if I broke the rules, please feel free to delete this post
Selling the car is the ferrarichat problem but you are buying the car so no problem to discuss at ferrarichat is my understanding. If you determine the condition of the engine and transmission then the expensivo questions are answer. Find the good mechanic to measure the engine compression and get numbers for every cylinder compression, both cold one and hot one then have him drive and find if 2nd gear will grind and needs rebuilt and if brakes are safe. The price is high for me but if engine and transaxles are for sure good ones, then this is worth much. Please do not buy the problem car All other mechanical and cosmetic questions will be lowered cost from these and you can use your eye to determine qualitia. I do like the velour seat inserts, the wrinkled air box cover, the black cam covers and the Ferrari badge on trunk boot but none appear original to my eye
Thank you for your input. I have sent an email to the seller and waiting for a reply. Very interested also on what parts of the cars past are comming with it, service bills, previous title etc. I think that I will ask for an inspection on this and have it as my first option if all clears good.
I feel like a peasant at the opera. Trying to absorb all the posts in this section, struggling to figure how much is "much" for a Dino, wondering if I should trust the seller who has a bad rating... Also locating someone in France who can visit and value this car seems impossible. I would go over myself but my doctor insists that I spend another week in hospital and then start with baby steps to full operational mode... pfffft.
Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Plus, from google maps, this is the location... I know that sometimes you may find diamonds in the mud, but...
you don't need to subscribe just to ask about buying a model and even talking about some listings. if you want an official wanted ad in Classifieds or selling a car, then a subscription required.
Thank you so much. I will subscribe asap anyway as the way I see it this way I will have to deal with sellers that are at least known to the users if this forum and have some more confidence on what I am going to purchase.
And from some more investigation, the shop that did the restoration is out of business but was a reputable restorer. Also Charles Pozzi is an official dealer who took care of the car and Fiorano Racing... well Fiorano Racing.... are these guys... https://www.fioranoracing.fr/fiorano-racing-testarossa-cabriolet-revision/ It seems I am kinda having a monologue here, so maybe I will keep posting as a logbook. Who knows, if I manage to get this one inspected in one of these guys maybe this could be the beginning of a story.
Mr. Thomazos, if I understand this correctly, you're trying to elicit comments on cars, in this case Dinos, you find for sale on the internet and if so, you might be doing yourself a disservice. Just search for and look at countless threads here about previously offered/sold Dinos at various venues and you will discover most comments are usually rather petty and pointless stabs like "Wrong color", "Incorrect steering wheel", "I like it" or "Too much money", etc... Also, having a PPI performed on any car before you or someone with make & model experience, perhaps another owner or restorer, etc, has had a change to actually look at & drive it may not be smartest approach. IMO, while independent, third party PPI is imperative for cars like Dinos, etc, it should be the last confirmation after everything else is already verified, but it's your money ... It's not uncommon to spend a year or two and look/drive/etc several examples before making an educated decision on the right car (for you). You might get lucky with less effort, but like I said, "it's your money"
I found mine in one week, but that was 2007, and on e-bay, and I had no clue whatsoever, and it was the biggest pos around. Yet I got an L 99.5% there , from a big lying crook on the percentages and the quality of the car. Fortunately, all numbers match. The door glass was from a Mangusta...sold it...to a ....Mangusta owner, and actually made money on it. In the day, most missing parts were dirt cheap. Best of luck Ariz, and go out into Dinoland very carefully.
Thank you all for your kind input. Seems a lot has been changed since the last time I bought a Ferrari. Back in the day you could find one for sale by an individual, go out for dinner and have a chat, inspect and you could even negotiate the price. In this market of auctions and bitcoin made millionaires things are insane, even junk cars sell for astronomical prices and people just do not care if they drive well or not because they just keep them in the garage as an asset. A larger scale of AP and Rolex watches bought to be stored. I have a Jensen I almost daily, restored twice, frist time was a disaster, tried to do it by a local, the guy slapped on the car whatever panel I brought him, painted it and said it was done. Then I took it to an event and returned home almost crying. The judges gabe it a 400 out of 1000 and were kind enough to explain all the issues the car had. Sent it to a specialist in UK and after two years it came back with a book of photos and a full one TB usb stick of videos. Took it again to a show and got 800 for lack of back history. Then I gave up. I am not playing this game anymore. Especially with a Ferrari. I am after a clean well maintained car that drives well. Too old to waste time on restos and too tired to search for perfection. Driving a car and be full of fear of a stone chip or a dent is not my thing anymore. I may have ten, twenty or thirty years left in me, or I may pass away in a week, I want to enjoy whatever is left. I worked like an ox plowing a field, I gave my family all that they needed, managed to have some money on the side and now it is time to enjoy. You can not take your money out on a twisty road nor wash them in your driveway. I will get a Dino and drive the s.. out if it as long as it is a solid one. I will depreciate sooner that the car so here it is... thats my obgective. When I get it I will post it here, get flamed for wrong side markers, after market stereo etc but will accept it. As long as 80% of the car is there and can be restored at a later day as a "dad's" car by my son or grandson. Thanks for listening and thanks for your kind words. Aris.
