I don't know how long this trend has been around, maybe 15 to 20 years or so, but there are these donut shops that create these over the top donuts that just don't appeal to me. I'm sure they are fun for those born a handful of years ago, but do any of you adults like these? They always seem too sweet to me almost to the point that buying a dozen for your family seems like overkill. Image Unavailable, Please Login

No. It's just a cupcake with all that crap on it.

Plain glazed, glazed donut holes or apple fritters.

I thought so until the wife and I went to a Nouveau Beaujolais party up in Denton last year. This company...

Do you consider these over the top? These are my 3 favorite in no particular order:

Maple bacon donut - Donut King in Orlando
Biscoff pocket - Stan's Donuts in Chicago. Basically a square donut filled with biscoff cookie butter, banana addition is optional.
Nutella pocket - Stan's Donuts. Same concept as the Biscoff, but with Nutella. You can add banana slices if u want, but I don't.

This Spring, we were at Universal Orlando when the first Voodoo Doughnut location opened there. From the time the park opened and until it closed, there was a constant line. My daughter had to try it, so one night we waited in the rain for 45 minutes to buy a box. She loved it, but like others here have observed, I'll take Krispy Kreme over those "gourmet" doughnuts any day of the week. And KK is a lot cheaper to boot!

I would prefer if it's a fruity pebble cereal on top of that donut.

I had a Banana Creme Pie from Revolution Donuts here in ATL this morning. it was okay. I think they're kinda overrated as a donut shop.

I'll take one of those hole in the wall strip mall donut shops that does them "just like when I was a kid" classics.

I’m not a fan of KK’s chocolate frosted because they glaze them too. If I want a glazed donut I’ll get one. Buckeye donuts near The Ohio State University campus has some very good varieties and pretty reasonable prices. My “go to” is the Chocolate Peanut Butter Bismarck at Sheetz gas stations when I’m heading out early to go fishing.

I walked by there back in April and it looked good. I had no desire for it as I had a milkshake from the Toothsome Chocolate Emporium. That was pretty good. It had a red velvet cupcake on top. Now that was over the top...

I'm seeing more of these ridiculous milkshakes being served at restaurants now. I think that's the new fad and the ridiculous donuts will be surpassed.
