I completely understand having a cell during business hours, or if one has a babysitter at home, but is it with you, and on 24/7? How about on a first date with someone, and their phone rings in the middle of dinner, she picks up, and proceeds to have a 10 minute conversation with her friend about nothing in particular, while you sit there twiddling your thumbs? Or I just love seeing a couple at dinner, and they are both talking on their own cell phones. Why are you two here together? I have come to the conclusion that I hate cell phones. Some people just cannot be without one. Some have absolutely no cell phone etiquette. They are more interested in what is going on away from them than what is going on with them there and now. I do have one, but only use it when necessary. It remains off most of the time. I give my number out to very few people. What are your thoughts?
My wife is. She runs a bunch of assisted living/adult foster care homes. Right now she has to take all the medical calls, thus she on call 24/7 for her job.
I leave my cell phone on, but it is usually 30'-200' away from me, in my truck. I check messages every hour or so. I pity those with 24/7 jobs (the cell phone made that possible)--that is a lif-wrecking position and prompts 'burnout'.
I get annoyed when people answer their phones when I'm talking to them. I agree that many people seem to be more concerned about what is happening out of their view. It's frustrating. That said, I don't have a landline, only cell phones. More often than not, I leave them at home, just like I would a land line.
Can I get back to you on this one, my cell phone is ringing and I have to take this call. J/K. Although I never go anywhere without it, and I use it quite a bit, I wouldn't say I'm a slave to it. I use it for business, but less than I used to, and there are times when I ignore it and just let it go to voice mail.
Not a slave to it. I alway have it with during regualr business hours. After hours I have it for emergencies but I do not answer it unless I know who it is, and I want to talk to them!
I'm not a slave to it, but it's one of the best techno items of anybody's lifetime. I remember the days in sales where I would have to find a payphone in the rain! As for the date that picks up a call at the dinner table, I would have left after three minutes, as that would have been our last date. I just hope to God they will NEVER be allowed on commercial air flights.
if i were on a first date with a girl, and she got a call from a random friend, and she took the call, and proceeded to talk for more than 2 minutes about b.s., i would never take her out again. i would count my lucky stars that she made things abundanty clear so early.
Not only that, you should excuse yourself from the table and leave her ass at the restaurant. Leykis 101 baby.
