I'm curious how many of you have become addicted to lifting weights and hitting the gym. I've only been lifting for 3 months and now I can't stand going more than two days without hitting the weights. It feels good in a way I can't really describe, I'd do it just for fun. Not quite as good as Arnold says, but maybe it'll get there. I never got the feeling at first, but recently it's been on the ride home from the gym I feel really[ good and was wondering who felt the same way.

I'm sure it has to do with endorphins or increased blood flow, but does anyone know what specifically causes this?

Yes, i am definitely obsessive compulsive about the gym........... although winters in Chicago sap my motivation i am back in the gym by may or June with a vengeance.

for me the cause of this is never being satisfied and high (perhaps unrealistic) standards for myself.

Not addicted but if I can't go at least 3 times a week I get antsy. And while I'm reading up stuff on the net it makes me want to go more.

Yesterday was my first day back in a week. I was sweating like a hog. Had to leave after 40 minutes, started feeling nautious.

If I go 3 days straight without, I feel like all my progress has been lost. Funny thing is my biggest lifts have come after a two week hiatus.

i hit the gym 3 times a week, and 2 days of futsal and badminton.

i'm pretty much addicted. i miss a workout, and for me, it's a 'waste' if i don't go for a workout at the gym. but i just got a new job. sometimes i go to work at 11 am, and fin at 1030pm. kinda crappy working hours, but it's just till December, and the pay is good :)

i feel outta shape already tho, this week, just hitting the gym once.

For once I agree with Darth :D

In actuality, I'm not obsessed with the gym, it's the Steam Room which happens to be located at the gym. :)

Well, beyond physical fitness, working out also helps energize the body, clear the mind, in general it just makes you feel better. So maybe that's the attraction: you know after you work out you'll feel better and have accomplished something. Sometimes for me it can be hard to go to the gym after a long day of work, or to get up a bit early to go for a run, but I know that the hardest part is just getting started and afterward I will feel great, so I just go do it. I think it's better to be upset at not working out, than to become complacent and lazy.

When I'm stressed over something I'll generally go to the bench and lift until I feel better. Never fails.

Nope. I have to force myself to work out and I've been doing it for years now. Can't say I really enjoy it. I get in, do work, and get out.

Im in a similar boat, been working out for the majority of the last 10 years. Its not that I dislike going, its just hard to stay motivated. Taking a break every few months and having a good gym partner helps me stay disciplined.

I started at age 14, now 33. I got 5 days a week to gym and love it. It is my drug.

If not I start to eat pizza every day and wont stick to any type of diet. Gym keeps me on a straight path in life.

I used to hate gyms. I tried to avoid them at all costs. Instead I would go for a run 5 or 6 times a week. But just this week I joined a gym not far from where I work. Should be interesting to see how I do.

whats funny about the gym is how in the mood you have to be. I would go 5 or 6 times a week a few years back and was totally into all the shakes and protein nonsense, I go on a month long vacation to mexico, dont work out or have a shake the entire time, I come back go to the gym and i just feel weird lifting, haven't been serious about lifting weights ever since, Im truly confused as why my drive just dried up basically overnight

You may have burned yourself out going 6 days a week.

I personally take a week off every 6-8 weeks. If I feel unmotivated I usually read the excercise and nutrition section on bb.com and get motivated.

I probably average 6 days a week all year round and don't do the same thing more than once a week so the variety keeps it interesting. Important to get plenty of food, sleep and rest otherwise you won't have the energy and may quickly lose interest.

I get the same way. If I don't lift for over a week, I fall out of sync and can't get myself back into it. I guess the trick is to never let up.

I -was- addicted, but then couldn't go for 2 months due to doc's orders. In the interim I moved an hour away from the gym. Kinda tough to schedule in 4 hours a day for a commute + workout, even unemployed ;)

I know I should get a closer gym, but I really liked the people/attitude there.
