What type of Ferrari Owner are you (or will you be)?

  1. I'm an extrovert and I would modify my Ferrari (or already have)

  2. I'm an extrovert and will keep my Ferrari stock

  3. I'm an introvert and I would modify my Ferrari (or already have)

  4. I'm an introvert and will keep my Ferrari stock

Which category do you fall in to?

Note: Tubi exhaust not considered 'modifying' for the purposes of this poll

I would probably modify it but respecting the marque philosophy.

My dream car is a F40 Michelotto with LM upgrades , LM hood , Carbon Ceramic brakes.

Ryan, my guess is that most Ferrari owners keep their cars box stock. The cars cost a lot of money to begin with, so changing them runs a big risk.

Now, Porsche owners on the other hand...

Yeah, I realize that many Ferrari owners are scared to change things - both for personality and for resale values. I think there is less risk though with pieces that can be swapped back to OEM.

You might also want to check out the Pontiac GTO market. You might be able to sell direct to some dealers. I'm not kidding. This happened in the Triumph motorcycle world in the late 60s when Triumph made a butt ugly motorcycle. To move them, the dealers came up with after market body parts.

I pretty much always find I want to do something - usually wheels. Like to be a bit different, and my cars are drivers so I'm happy to make changes so my driving experience is more enjoyable.

Whether in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, the first letter is "E" or "I." ;)

I really like this personality scale the best of the ones I've done, and I think the "Type" explanation for me is scarily accurate.

Here's a breakdown from a decent website on the MBTI:

    Extraversion and Introversion

When we talk about "extraversion" and "introversion", we are distinguishing between the two worlds in which all of us live. There is a world inside ourselves, and a world outside ourselves. When we are dealing with the world outside of ourself, we are "extraverting". When we are inside our own minds, we are "introverting".

    We are extraverting when we:
    Talk to other people
Listen to what someone is saying
Cook dinner, or make a cup of coffee
    Work on a car

    We are introverting when we:
    Read a book
Think about what we want to say or do
Are aware of how we feel
Think through a problem so that we understand it

Within the context of personality typing, the important distinction is which world we live in more often. Do we define our life's direction externally or internally? Which world gives us our energy, and which do we perhaps find draining?

I think "scared" is a wrong choice of word here. I don't think Ferrari owners are "scared" to do anything to their cars. I modified/upgrade my cars more on the performance/reliability front, just not on the cosmetic front. To me, and with all due respect, a Ferrari is a collectible automotive art, pointless aftermarket modifications just cheapens it, that's all.

I concur that Ferrari owners are not "scared".

If we were we would be too afraid to live our dreams.

Hmm... probably not. Maybe a lot of people who voted they would modify did that because of this - but I'd say straight pipes might be closer to the level I mean. Exhausts are really the one anamoly of the Ferrari mod world - it's the only mods that made it through the anti-mod ages of the 80's (although Michelotto and Koenig held on too).

Anthony & Chiaro: please don't misunderstand me, I supposed 'scared' had weakness intonations I didn't mean. Consider it in the sense of 'reluctant.'

Boy oh boy, did you open the door to a very big room!!! The cars people buy - the way they display & drive them - the things they do to them to set them apart from others, or (this is the pivot point in thought) JUST TO MAKE THEM HAPPY!!! It would take a bit of therapy with each, to truly understand why Joe (sorry Joe) wants a carbon fiber bumper - as opposed to why someone else want's one too.

The extrovert may paint a sleeper black - while an introvert may paint flames!! Know what I mean? Fun stuff, when you really start to think about all the possible directions that one can go in. There is no pat answer.

    Cheers, Hank

Changing exhaust systems and wheels etc I see no problem with on more common Ferraris. I always like to have a vehicle just a little different than all the others at a Ferrari meet. If however I had a car like a Berlinetta Lusso then it would surely remain stock.

I said "I'm an introvert and I would modify my Ferrari (or already have) "

I say this, because since I had an engine compartment fire and I can no longer call my car can "all original". So, I decided to customize my 308 how I thought it should have been made. This is how I have customized it:

The interior is black with yellow tubing, with a single yellow stripe in the center of the seats with the wing portions being black. The head rests are black with yellow tubing and yellow embroidered Ferrari horse logos on them. All the inserts on the doors, window posts, and soon to be targa are also in black with yellow inserts. I had custom floor mats made to match, black with yellow embroidered horse with Ferrari under them. Black and yellow Momo steering wheel and shifter knob to match. They are not installed yet, so I will hold out on pictures. I will definately put a custom stereo in it later when the car is running again.

I have a Borla exhaust system with test pipes. The cat system has been totally removed, since there are no regulations in my area.

My doors showed signs of rust, so I purchased a set of fiberglass ones from a 76 GTB, I sure hope they fit and lighten my car a bit. =]

I have a DIS ignition system with crank trigger and the distributer system is history.

I am sourcing out air filter system to replace the old system.

I am planning on modifying to a Xenon headlight system, and after reading the post about the LED taillights, I might do those when they become availible.

I am also having my factory rims chrome dipped.

The car will be yellow with black louvers when it is completed.

It will look stock at first glance, but to another Ferrari owner, it will be obvious modifications. Ok, now I will don my flame suit.
