I'm related to two people of questionable social stature - John Cortez, last I heard he was still a managing editor for Autoweek Magazine but haven't seen his name in the past few weeks.

I'm also somehow related to Robin Leach (Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous) although I'm not sure how - it might be one of those "mother's cousin's godson's niece's husband's uncle" kind of things.

Nope... never met either. Guess I keep a low profile that way, eh?

 

My tax accountant just told me that her great grandmother's nephew was 2-time Indy 500 winner Bill Vukovich!

 

On my mothers side were are related to Tommy Younghans (NHL player from the North Stars) and on my wifes side we are related to Art Garfunkel (somehow). Oh I know Bruce Wellington that has to count for something.

 

My dad's cousin used to be the head of MI6. (The organisation that James Bond allegedly works for)

My grandmothers girls name (i.e. before she married - is this the correct wording in English?) was Mühlenberg. My Uncle found out that we are remote relatives of Heinrich Melchior Mühlenberg (1711-1787). In 1741 he moved to America and became the principal organizer of American Lutheranism. He is considered the "Father of American Lutheranism."

One of his sons, John Peter Gabriel Mühlenberg, served as a general under George Washington in the War of Independence. In 1776 he left his church in Woodstock to raise and lead a regiment in the American Revolution. He served throughout the war, retiring (1783) as brevet major general. "Everything has its season, a time to preach and a time to fight" is a famous quote from him.

Another, Frederick Augustus Conrad Mühlenberg , became a member of the Continental Congress, and first speaker of the House of Representatives.

Somehow you might say that part of our family helped to shape the US
