By far the coolest thing ever is a gentleman that lived behind me my first year of Law School (2 yrs ago).

He owned a Black/Black F50 that was absolutely sinister. He drove the damn thing EVERY day & EVERY where. He lived right behind me and every night I would hear him coming up the street and I would RUN to my balcony like a little b!tch just to watch him pass.

I always admired him (because he had the philosophy to drive the car) though I never formally met him. I mean I would see this thing at the grocery store, in the rain, in rush hour traffic, you get the idea. By far the best was seeing it wedged between an SUV and a grocery getter minivan in the parking lot at the neighborhood grocery store!!!

It is my understanding that he sold the car to a gentleman in Baton Rouge who I have had the pleasure of meeting (really nice guy), and I smile everytime I see the thing in person.

Somehow I never felt sorry for the car because I knew that it was being enjoyed and DRIVEN. After seeing the car driven daily on some of the nations worst roads and through all conditions, somehow my fully restored Vette with the "never seen rain" history seemed like BS. Needless to say, the Vette is sitting on St. Charles Ave right now in the rain, and I am enjoying putting the miles on it.

You probably mean Jim Spiro? Well known for driving and enjoying cars with 6 and 7 figure values; hats off to him. Nothing as sad as a piece of art languishing and rotting in some secret storage area.

 

i would agree with the philosophy of using your toys and works of art, coz u only live once and you arent coming back!
and i do much more so now that i have moved to a place where i actually do drive occasionally. but be warned it does have its downsides. my 512tr now has door dings, and some scratches and some demento broke my drivers side window with a pole and scratched the window frame slightly and damaged the leather on the middle console and seat. none of this is big stuff, and have gotten some of it repaired.

it is a lot of fun though to get these looks of complete disbelief at a macdonalds or supermarket parking lots.

but when using your pride and joy to get groceries you have to get toughened up about the abuse that will surely come its way.....

 

What kind of spider is in the gear knob? Black widow? Is it real?

 

That's the beauty of owning a sports car... the challenges of incorporating it into your daily routines. I once brought home a four drawer file cabinet in my Alfa Spider. On another occasion, I drove really slowly with the top part of a screen door laying across the top of the windscreen and the bottom resting where the conv. top stows away.

 

I have no trouble with this guy putting his bicycle on his F40...
But...I´d rather put a couple of Ferraris on a transporter.

He has an LM wing, Maybe he is thinking if his transmission explodes while at LeMans on the Mulsanne at 205 mph he can later ride his bike back to the pits LOL

 

I actually saw someone do this. It was Paul Newman at an SCCA National at Pocono in 1992. He parked his race car and pulled one of those fold-up bikes out of the back and rode back to the pits. I started laughing and clapping and he gave a thumbs up. LOL.
