I bought my 308 off ebay too. I bought one that it turned out needed pretty much everything though. I did pretty much everything too. For many years when anyone asked a question like this I'd laugh and say "I can sell it today for what I paid for it." and meant it. I paid $20k for it. I put somewhere north of $30k into it over the next decade plus. I NEVER thought I'd even come close to breaking even....NEVER.

But when I was ready to sell, actually I won't lie I needed to sell it at that exact time, my timing could almost not have been more perfect. I sold it in less than two weeks for slightly more than double my initial purchase price. Still not up to even but I also had a garage full of spare parts left to sell. I made folks here some decent deals on all that stuff, and almost made enough to consider the car at the break even point.

But like others have mentioned, I enjoyed the experience and the people I got to meet because I owned that car. Those are the things that no amount of money can buy!!

I just squeak under 20 yr age, but with my 1999 456M, I’d be about 30% underwater in today’s market.
But I knew that would be the case going in.
And the enjoyment has been well worth the price.
