Has anyone on FChatt vacationed in Argentina? If so, post your experience. I saw a Discovery special on Argentina and it looks like a great place for a family vacation and would like to know more.

been twice, only to B.A. and Bariloche (skiing in august), it's fun for a trip with buddies, not sure about bringing the family tough. probably the overall safest country in S. America. Some Spanish will help a ton, not many people speak English there. it is cheap.

Its fun and I suppose you can take the family, if you really have to ;)

The exchange is now 3 pesos to $1US so its cheap for us now & you can get great deals on leather goods, silver, & locally made stuff

Summer is between Christmas & end of March, June through August is ski season & it rains a lot in BA.

    The food is excellent,

Give me a little more info on what you want to do etc & I'll give you more specific advice

We want to explore the country a little, maybe spend a few days at the beach, a few days in BA, a few days at a ranch ect,,,just a traditional family vacation with a little cultural education for the kids thrown in for good measure.

When are you going ? In BA stay in a neighborhood called Recoleta and DONT use the taxis, only go by car service or Remis

for hotels in BA I would suggest the Hilton, 4 seasons, Hotel Alvear or Ceaser Park

Mar del Plata is a fun beach town but very crowded, about 3 hrs by car from BA, they have a Sheraton & Hotel Costa Galan which is nice to

ask the hotel for a tour of a ranch & they can send you somewhere to have an Asado (BBQ in US) & rodeo w Gauchos

for culture you can visit the Juan Fangio museum which is in Balcarce which is a little out of the way but very much worth the trip. Its an amazing collection in the town where Fangio grew up

You can PM me if you have more questions

I understand that the ranch bought by Butch Cassidy with his band robbery money is now a tourist ranch operated by his great grand daughter...have you ever been ?
