I live in a very quiet area of Sherman oaks near the Chandler estates on an very secluded street with minimul traffic. I just found out that on Wednesday night at 11:00pm my next door neighbors house guest was robbed at gun point right out front of her house. Two white males approached him in an older Honda or Toyota with lights off as he was loading his SUV. One suspect approached him with a gun drawn to his head while the other waited in the car. The suspect demanded money, once he complied the suspect pulled the trigger 3 times until the clip fell out of the gun! This may have been an armed robbery turned homicide, by the grace of god the gun was either unloaded and used to scare him or it just jammed. When the clip fell out of the gun the driver then yelled to the suspect to get in the car and they took off. As a warning this is the second robbery in this area with the same motive in the last month. They are driving around neighborhoods at night and looking for people leaving homes or arriving. Please help spread the word for anyone living in the Sherman oaks, valley village, van nuys area. Chris.
Scary stuff. People will need to be on the lookout more, reporting suspicious cars and drive right into their garages closing the door behind. Plus motion lights, cameras etc. Sounds like these idiots wanted the thrill of really scaring someone with an unloaded gun?
I have the brightest house on the street. Florescent floods surround the house on 3 sides which burn all night, and the landscaping is lit up until 2 am. Hopefully the news will spread through your neighborhood and the bad guys will move to another area (or get shot, which would be ideal).
The fine line between the criminals and the good people is The "Second Amendment" to the Constitution. Support it!
That's horrible, did they take the clip after it fell too? If the person has it then can they somehow identify the person that way?
Being involved in tactical driver training, a very good technique is to " when possible back into a parking spot or garage. This technique allows the added advantage of minimizing a surprise " rear attack ". It allows for a wider field of view and at night the driver has . the advantage of the vehicle's headlamps, making it difficult for a potential " perp " to view the occupant(s). Should the situation " escalate " you are already pointing in the right direction should you need to implement an escape. It sounds extreme, and takes some practice and becoming acclimated to the technique, but every precaution can help us in not becoming a victim.
Do the cameras, The best couple of thousand bucks I have ever spent. Plus its fun!!!! When dogs sh** on my lawn, I confront the owners next time i see them. I see why thing are the way they are in my yard what time this happened and who dropped off what. I have actually helped police catch a vandelizer in my neighborhood.
I wonder how your neighbors feel about living next door to your home that is lit up like Dodgers stadium at night?...I'm sure that your fluorescent floods lighting up their bedrooms all night cannot be enjoyable.....Mark
They point down and are recessed into the 4' eaves. They light up the sides of the house and the landscape lights illuminate the shrub and planter areas. Think tasteful, plus I'm on a half acre on a golf course with my lot is lined with tall trees. I grew up on 'burn a light for safety'. I'm surprised at how many houses are pitch black at night. IMHO cameras record crime, they do not prevent it. Good advice on backing in your car.
Lots of GREAT advise! Be Aware ... Do Not Be A Victim!!!! Lots of these are "follow home". These people see expensive cars, watches and jewlery and will follow you until you stop (not just your home). Always leave extra room at stop lights and signs. Leave yourself a "OUT" and WATCH YOUR MIRRORS!!!
Scary stuff. In Woodland Hills we get guys and gals going door to door selling stuff...full distraction robbery ring. While they are talking to you, another person goes around back. I have motion lights and a nice sign that says: Nothing inside is worth dying for..I will post a pic. When people come to your door, (even though I have a no soliciting sign), I do not open door, I am rude and firm. Last year we had a guy at 9pm try to get me to open the door. Tried and tried, I told him to get the F out of here. Next day, reported in Woodland Hills 9:30pm attempted rape..guy kicked in the door when the young lady opened it and tried to have his way. Always be aware of your surroundings and alert. Do not open the door or leave garage un attended. Also, most times it takes the cops a long time to get there.....so, you can only count on yourselves. Be safe, be trained with fire arms, have a plan. Another thing they do is see you doing gardening and girl gets you chatting and guy goes around back. Robs the house while you are chatting. Lastly, vehicle related, guy with a chopped Merc, had a couple come in and chat him up and buy him a coffee under the guise of building one and looking for tips. They sat him down with his back to his car. They chatted him up until his phone rang. Was his fabricator asking what was wrong with his car as he saw it belng loaded up on a trailer. Again, full distraction with a man and a women. Thank god, he ran out and stopped it. Magazine sellers, roofers, and the guys that paint your street numbers are casing neighbor hoods.
I agree with you Armen. I will be investing in cameras next week for the pupose of the dog watching. We don't really have any crime where we live or vandelizim but have enough dogs sh** on our lawns that does not get picked up. This all started when a new family moved into our block. Can't to catch the dog in action.
AG, Unfortunately the POS picked up the clip and hopped in the car and fled. I sure wish there was a shred of evidence left.
Update: I actually spoke to my neighbor directly, the suspects actually did leave the gun clip in the street. What they picked up was the victims belongings. The clip belonged to an older Glock 9mm it had 7 rounds in it. I hope they can lift a print off the clip or the bullets. Here is the best part about the LAPD they did not show up for 40 minutes, my neighbor called 911 3 times in that 40 minutes, dispatch kept telling her they are on the way.
It's an older Glock because of the magazine? BS. There is NO way to tell the age of a Glock by the magazine, its been the same exact design for the last 25 years.
Yeah. Also, if the gun clicked three times it isn't a Glock. Glock are striker fired, and the slide must cycle for the guns firing pin to set. It would need to be a double action trigger for the trigger to click three times... I would have your neighbor ask the police how it could be a Glock, it just doesn't add up...
