What do you think that thing weighs? Pretty inspicuous armor in an extremely conspicuous car! I guess with the politics down south, it's not a bad idea, but can't imagine the car performs that well with the added weight. Kinda the antithesis of Colin Chapman's philosophy.

No actually the original owner of this car is a mexican billionaire, he had this red one and a yellow one armored for his wife,

I have also seen an armored 550 and a 456 and there most be some others.

Great, who would want the slowest, piggyest 355 around? At least 300 to 400lbs of armorplate and glass on it...hope they upgraded the brakes too.

Very cool I have seen this before. Interesting that the ad says the Armoring of the car took place in Italy.

I spoke to the Ferrari Dealer in Sao Paulo Brazil several years ago and they told me that Maserati would Armor their cars for clients. They had several in the showroom and it was very cool to see the difference between the Armored and non armored cars. (not to mention the price)

But I could never confirm with Maserati or Ferrari that it was actually being done by the factory.

ooh and from what I understand the life of the armor job is about 4 years then the car must be given some sort of "Armor Material Overhaul" as the materials degrade over time.

    cool to see though

From the days of the Rosso Brigado the Italians are very familiar with building armored cars. It was often offered and done right at the various factories when the cars were built.

With the use of Lexan and ballistic cloth, depending on the threat level desired, armoring does not need to be super heavy. Now if you want protection against something like a LAWS rocket or some of the 20mm stuff around now that is a different story.

The new Crown Vic Police Interceptors have a ballistic door panel option from Ford. Of course our agency said it is too expensive and refuse to order any of them...
