When searching for a car I'm curious how a buyer can arrange with a seller (non-Ferrari dealer) for all the inspections. "Hey, you don't know me but I want to take your car and ship it hundreds of miles away to a dealership for several days to get an inspection....and oh... I still might not buy it after".

Has anyone actually been able to arrange a purchase from a non Ferrari dealership with those inspections occurring?

Every car I’ve looked at was a reasonable distance to a dealer so I could ask the seller to take it. If not, I think it’s reasonable to send a refundable deposit, or involve a third party broker

I think most sellers would accommodate (maybe even encourage) a PPI. There’s all kinds of comfort levels, but I would never buy a car without a proper independent PPI (in fact, I'm purchasing a CPO Speciale from a Ferrari dealer and still did an independent PPI, which is probably overkill, but cheap insurance since I haven’t seen the car in person).

I think the issue with your statement is “shipping it hundreds of miles away for several days”. As a seller, I would never agree to this. Hopefully there are some local independent shops that know the vehicles? Otherwise, there are folks out there that will travel to the car and perform a PPI on your behalf.

What car are you looking at?

    Best of luck!

It is likely more cost effective to pay a Ferrari independent mechanic to travel to the car.

In the Ferrari world, boutique services like this exist. Call your nearest independent Ferrari shop and ask.
