I have a relatively new iPod mini that drives me insane. I manage it off my Dell Latitude C610. I had to buy a USB 2.0 card adapter for the laptop, as the laptop doesn't have a 2.0 port. When I plugged in the iPod to the adapter this morning, my iTunes software isn't recognizing the iPod. The iPod is charging, but iTunes isn't synching the new songs with the unit. I've unplugged and replugged a few times, and have even removed the card from the laptop properly using the 'Unplug or Eject Hardware' tool. I just can't make it work.

Any iPod geniuses out there that also know iTunes and computers? Also, iTunes has nicely made itself my .wav file player, but it won't play the .wav files. If I open a .wav file, iTunes opens but no sound.

    Friggin' Mac stuff.

I too am not able to get my iPod mini to work with any of my laptops, though it works flawlessly on the desktops. It’s really strange. I’ve yet to find anything that will fix the problem but if I come across something I’ll make sure to post it.

It has worked before, I'm up to about 250 songs on it. When I first started with it, I had to load and reload the software to get it to work. But it's not working today.

UPDATE: I just reset the iPod, now it's working. Go figure.

Jim, I recently had a problem with a program "taking over" file types.

    Go to

    -Control Panel
    -Folder Options
-"File Types" tab at the top.

Scroll down to "WAV" and you can select it and change the default program that opens it.

    Even easier...

hold down shift. Right click the file. Choose "open with..." and select the program from the list provided, or browse to the application you wish to open it with. Check the box "always use this application". Done.

This happened to me as well with my mini (ipod for you smarta$$es). I had to reset the ipod. Get your directions for the ipod. You have to hold two buttoms down at the same time, but I don't remember which two. I think it is play and select, but again.....check your manual!

Exactly which PC Card did you buy? Getting USB 2.0 cards to work with various laptops can be tricky, depending on the chipsets.

I suspect that the USB 2.0 card adapter you are using isn't powering the iPod. Typically, PCMCIA cards do not have enough voltage coming into them to send power out to drive USB 2.0 devices like an iPod that depend on it (the $40 Belkin F5U222 card includes a power supply, and works well with iPods IMHO).

I've seen this behavior before, and you'll read about it on various iPod support forums.

This happened to me and my buddy. You have to reset the ipod. hold down the select button and the play button(i believe)until you se it turn off and the logo comes back on. That fixed both of ours.

The PCMCIA card is a Compaq CPQUSBCB and it has it's own power supply. The reset worked, I did it a couple of days ago.
