Please leave. Just go. Today was the best laughter I have had ever in F1. It was sad sarcastic and laughter laced with anger. Please leave. Go today this minute. Even today would not be soon enough. If Vettel goes with you even better. Go!
Schumi did his fair share of strategy on the track..... its been discussed plenty by Ross, Rory Byrne and many others. The one that stands out was the race in France, can’t remember the year, when schumi worked out to do four stops instead of the usual two or three of the time, and drove qualifying laps EVERY lap to achieve a very unlikely win against stiff competition.. elton has to ring in to find out what button to presss most races, he hasn’t the spare mental capacity to help with strategy even out of the car, again, noted various times by toto Wolff, Niki rat and various McLaren engineers and managers over the years
My question about Arrivabene always was how did he arrive at this position if he was the commercial guy for Phillip Morris? And, how does that even remotely translate into a team chief? Arrivabene was on Marchionne's watch. One has to wonder how that all played out behind the scenes. Commercially, its likely working like a dream and if what is being written about the livery change, it's Phillip Morris' doing. The short term gain on the commercial side however doesn't seem to be improving the product on the track however. Pity, it was an entertaining championship up until July. BHW
It worked very well for Flavio Briatore when Benetton took him from marketing knitwear in the US to lead their F1 team. Without racing experience, he earned them 2 titles, and Renault kept him for 2 more But Arrivabene hasn't been a resounding success at the Scuderia.
At this point in hindsight I think we are realizing that it was the two part team of Maurizio AND Sergio that where spearheading improvement.
Of course, you're right. But, wasn't Briatore likewise involved in F1 in more ways other than marketing and team chief for Benetton? Seems to me he had his fingers in a few pies such as with Renault engines, driver agent, Heidi Klum, etc. Lets remember that Flavio brought in Michael Schumacher, Ross Braun and Rory Byrne too. Of course, we may always turn to Red Bull & Toro Rosso which in and of themselves are marketing exercises to sell overly weird-tasting energy drinks. BHW
I agree. Seb is supposed to be the German efficiency but he is pushing too hard, making mistakes. I was struck how low key Arrivabene prooved to be after hearing he was such a marketing guy. And get this... remember when when James Allison had to leave after the death of his wife? I always felt that was a bit heartless of Ferrari not to stick with him but the situation must have been too hard, mid season. But see now how he is smiling and beating the pants off the Scuderia. He was on the podium doused with champagne recently right? Where the heck did all the power go after Spa? And why the heck did Seb push into Spoon when Max had a 5 second penalty?
I DO like the Alfa Sauber strategy. Now SF can battle with 4 cars in an alliance, kinda like the MB powered cars have. Maybe SF should blow up a motor or push MB a little more to make them do it. The old oil burning thing still pisses me off.
http://www.sportfair.it/2018/10/f1-rivoluzione-ferrari-larrivo-leclerc-scambio-ruoli-maranello-nel-2019/824554/ Chief engineer Jock Clear to be Leclerc's race engineer in 2019. Gringo taking the heat ?
As far as I know, Briatore had no involvement in motor racing before being made team manager at Benetton. I think he was chosen by the Benetton family for his budget control abilitiy when they bought the Toleman team. Briatore's previous experience was in knitwear marketing (he launched the Benetton brand in the US), and in catering before that. Briatore learnt quickly and turned out to be an outstanding team principal, although a bit of a rogue.
He's trying to put on a brave face. http://scuderiafans.com/ferrari-f1-boss-says-deficit-mercedes-looks-impossible/
If Vettel finished runner-up to Hamilton in the drivers championship, and Ferrari second in the constructors one, I wouldn't call that a defeat. Ferrari suffered more lean years in the past, so I don't share the doom and gloom this year. 2019 will be another year with everything to hope for.
Good move. Clear has not been good enough and not a fan of his anyway. Guess we found out who will replace Arrivabene now. A small French guy with connections to the FIA. Where did I hear that already?
Latest rumors in Italy state that technical director Binotto lost an internal power struggle against Arrivabene. Now Binotto might be leaving and the fear is that he might go straight to Merc.
I posted about Binotto on October 18th post 520 in the "2018/2019 Silly Season" thread. And Oct. 23 post 528 in the same thread as a follow-up.
No worries they will bring in yet another Marlboro Man.I think they must be smoking something much stronger though.
