    does anyone know how to tell if my dvd drive is region free? so i can use the region X thing to allow more changes of the region?????

    does anyone even know what im talking about????

    ok, ive got some more info, i have no clue if its pal or the ntc one, but i need to know when apple started shipping out the RCP2 drives... mine is from december of 2004, but i have no other way of telling if the drive is RCP2....

    by the way the my drive is a Mat****a DVD-R UJ-835F

    edit: ha its matsh-ita

    and im trying to watch region 2 dvds on a region 1 player

    So you are trying to watch a PAL on an NTSC. best i can tell you is, you're screwed. I'm actually surprised that it doesnt play. Usually all of the computers that have a DVD player from 2002-present will play both. This means you have to buy a cheap DVD player that will play both. sorry, best i can do

    thanks, ive found out that my drive is one of the few that you cant "flash" with firmware to make it a "free" region one and use region X to reset the counter...

    there is an option to change the region, but you can only do this 5 times..... then your stuck...
