Several requests for this, although I get requests for new forums all the time. Where is the line between having multiple or a single thread vs. giving a topic its own forum. I'm usually anti-new forum.

This is up for public vote and comment. The new forum would fall under OOT.

    Thanks,
    rob

Rob, thanks for bringing this up as a poll.

I'm one of the members who suggested this idea, not because I am (actually was) an architect and wanted a little professional society here, but for the reason that this seems to be a topic that many Fchatters are very interested in...over my years on Fchat I've seen quite a few spontaneous discussions and new threads started concerning architecture, home design & building, and visual arts...these are common interests that cross all lines of occupation and profession; and, of course, design and visual arts are directly related to Ferraris in particular, automobiles in general.

I truly believe this merits its own forum, as Vintage Ferraris did a few years back...Vote YES!

Great idea, but it should be "Art & Photography"

The only "Architecture" we care about here are looking at warehouses packed with Ferrari's or houses worth over $50million :D:D:D:D

    Great idea.

In a forum where people seem to appreciate design by the houses of Pininfarina, Scaglietti, Guigiaro, et al, I suspect some will come to appreciate non-automotive design.

And as long as the architecture forum doesn't get filled with "revival" this and "faux" that, it'll be just fine.

Uhh.... glad that you are only speaking for yourself! Architects have had a great contribution to car design and to advancing many of the modern thoughts that inform their design. And many of them have been Italians. They were deeply inspired by the speed of cars, by the time of cinema, by the industrial sounds and temperament. They sought to re-define design accordingly.

    Among them:

F.T. Marinetti wrote the Futurist Manifesto in 1909. It is sometimes called 'The Joy of Mechanical Force. He wrote: “A speeding automobile is more beautiful than the Victory” (1911)

Antonio Sant'Elia wrote with rage about copying styles of the past.

Umberto Boccioni wrote modern things 'should give life to objects ...by surrounding our body (bottle, automobile, house, tree, street) ... into an arabesque of curves and straight lines.

Architects Gropius and others innovated with the aesthetics of industrial production. While none of them designed any cars (to my knowledge) their ideas continue to inform designers of all types even today (see below). Look at the Silver Bullets of the 30s - they drew much from Bauhaus ideas.....

Norman Bel Geddes wrote “An object is streamlined when its exterior surface is so designed that upon passing through a fluid such as water or air the object creates the least disturbance in the fluid.” (1932)

They ideas of Raymond Lowey are legend... and so on.

It is very limiting to discuss car design outside of such broader design realities. I hope that more will chime in on this. There is much to discuss for those who are interested!

I guess I don't know the exact terminology for forums, but...the bikini thread seems to have very firm support and has been sticky for a long time.

my definition of a forum is an actual subforum, as in other off topic, backroom lounge, etc. and in case anyone didn't notice it, it was a joke when i first mentioned it.

Why apology? You didn't say anything wrong.

More observations regarding the Bikini Forum:

It's frequented and supported by the most upstanding members of Fchat.

    It's had great staying power.

It's an intrinsic feature of Fchat...not just another crack in the wall.

To get rid of it, you would have to go to war against hardened veterans.

i agree, the bikini forum (although i consider it more of a thread) is here to stay!
but back to the main point, i think that an art and architecture forum would be awesome here. i know next to nothing about art (even after working in an art studio for a couple of years) but an architecture forum would be awesome!

If the forum was called "Art & Design" it could include a broader spectrum of related threads, such as:
    - Fine Art
    - Photography
    - Architecture
    - Interior Design
    - Landscape Design
    - Web Design
    - Graphic Design
    - Auto Design
    - Product Design

    ...just a thought.

That's the intention, as far as I'm concerned.

How about "Architecture, Design, and Visual Arts"?

As I expressed in a previous post, #2 this thread, architecture needs to occupy a featured position because its a topic that so many people on Fchat have consistently shown an interest in.

This was a great idea, and I really hope we can get this forum.

Well stated rationalization, as Design books which appeal to the Vitruvian Man often subtitle it in so many words, as well.

    Caveat lector...

Technically, Arts and Humanities encompasses the following:
    Fashion : Film : Graphics / Animation : History : Art History : Classics : Interior Design : Lighting Design : Music : Music Education : Philosophy : Photography / Photojournalism : Sculpture & Metalworking

But, doesn't include Architecture... and has Social Sciences of History and Philosophy intermingled. Not good eatin' for the eyes, as that gristle belongs in Politics and Religion subforum.

Indeedly-do, Form, Space and Order would let us chew the fat in the tasty Architecture, Design and Visual Arts
